I do.

I have CenturyLink. For a while they were at least passable most of the time, although they'd do stupid shit like cut me off for an entire day sometimes.

Now, though, they've just been getting worse and worse.

About half of all videos I try to watch stop for a very long buffering period sometime around 1:30. And of course, most sites these days assume you have a very fast connection and won't let you pause it while it loads.

A few months ago, they sent me an E-mail saying my service was moved to some address that I have never lived at.

About a month ago, they tended to insist that I didn't pay my bill even though I did, and actually cut off my service for several days. Had to call them several times, wait for over an hour on hold, and be shunted between irrelevant departments like tech support ("Is your computer on? Do you know what an on switch is? Can you open Internet Explorer, even though nobody under the age of 65 has used it since 2004?") before getting the billing resolved.

And now, about half of all page loads fail with "Connection takes too long to respond". Always. Every day, every time of day.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh *throws something*

Does anyone else have any ISP horror stories or experiences (CenturyLink or otherwise)?

Not really since I switched, however, the "customer center" of the new ISP just fails with an unknown error whenever I try to log on.

Incidentally, this means I can't use half of their services since they're only available via this "customer center". I feel compelled to simply stop paying for those services as long as I can't actually use them.

I'm sure those in IRC have noticed that my connection is very unstable in the evening for me. Currently using EE Broadband, and the connection stability during "peak" times is horrifying.

It gets to a point that certain things aren't possible during the evening, but only during the afternoon instead.

When I first signed up for Comcast, they signed me up for internet twice, even sending me a self-install kit I wasn't eligible for... and then wanted me to go over to their local office (not very convenient) to return it, which was annoying. (I eventually got them to send me a prepaid return box)

At least I haven't really had connection issues with them... fingers crossed.

I guess you should search your purse for negative dollar bills. Do you have any of those?

Great! They'll pay you 4 dollars!

I use one of the two ISPs in this country. They're slow (4mbps), but fairly reliable so I can't complain too much - we usually only have downtime around once a month, or less.

You think 4 Mbps is slow? My connection's only 1.5 Mbps.

..... welp. That's ridiculous.

I was spoiled by living in Spain (where we had 10mbps), so this was... a bit of a downgrade. It seems like a ton of people (in both the US and Europe) have much faster cable/DSL internet that leaves ours in the dust.

Then again... we only got 4mbps just over a year ago - we had 1mbps for three years, which finally got upgraded to 2mbps in February 2012 and then to 4mbps in November 2012.

I'd have expected much better from Seattle though, ffs :<

Yeah, even my old apartment had faster speeds than this place.

I ended up with a negative balance on my tuition one year... eventually they sent me a check for it, but it was such a small amount of money I'm not sure I ever bothered to cash it. >_>

1.5 Mbps is quite nice for browsing.

Although, that shared would be kinda painful.

Well I used to have only 3 Mbps, until I switched to cable and my speed increased 33.333333333...-fold. <_<

It's tolerable for browsing, but... yeah. Downloads and anything bandwidth intensive are a pain in the ass.

And I have to share this connection, which limits things a bit more :|

It's sad that I can often get faster download speeds from my phone's HSPA+ (while connecting to a network in a different country) than I can from my home connection. If it wasn't for my low bandwidth cap, I'd use it more.

Mine's not shared (the only other residents of my apartment have fuzzy tails) but still takes forever to download anything. And the Internet of today expects everyone's connection to be blazingly fast. Bleh.

Yeah, there's sites which have such high minimum speed requirements that even a 30Mbit fibre connection will struggle. Yeah. I saw that once.

At least the era of using flash for everything seems to have been killed by the mobile web...

Oh god.. Flash on sites.

That's still really heavy, and flash itself is like an overloaded car with broken gears. Doesn't go smoothly.

I have charter, and it's really not that bad except they have a lot of power outages for some reason. I wish FiOS would've moved into the midwest because my internet in florida was so much better than it is here.
