I use Comodo myself. It's far less taxing that the big names, and yet there's a free version. It's better than some others I tried.

I remember this notebook bundled McAffee thanks to the OEM.

One word: ugh.

What others have you tried? I mean you are from the U.K. so I'd imagine you'd have different brands?

I don't recall what antivirus this computer came with (I got it through the business channel, so I'm guessing it didn't come with one), but I'm glad this didn't come with any junkware that OEMs usually bundle their machines with ;)

This laptop didn't come with any. Usually nowadays you have to download everything.

Actually that's what they are doing for newer generations to free up space. I think they sell for more that way too.

Oh, so that has to mean 2008 is not a newer generation.

And what's worse is that the OEM CDs for repair obviously bundle the crap.

The Security Shield virus disables the Uninstallation Wizard or whatever it is called just to fuck with you.
Oh, if that's bad, Nava Shield is worse.

It's a shame it doesn't work anymore.

Security Shield is a rogue antivirus that tries to convince you that your computer has virsuses and that you need to buy it.

AVG isn't that heavy to run from what I know.

It's probably one of the better ones. Aside from MalwareBytes.

AVG provided me no protection. It just let infections in. More than 10 if I recall correctly.

IIRC AVG is only set to auto detection if you set it. Otherwise you need to manually run scans, plus AVG does give a warning saying "File is unknown, are you sure you can trust it?"

It didn't do that for me. It was far too weak, even a manual scan didn't even detect some infections.

Tried Comodo, detected the infections straight away. Stuck with it since.

What type of scan did you use? Quick scan or full scan?
