I tried running Dolphin again for shits and giggles... This time it ran, which was cool.

The bad part? It only ran at 33% and looked like a pixelated piece of shit. :/

I've gotten Super Paper Mario to run on a GC emulator before with decent speed. That's about it though.

But for the purposes of cleanliness, I prefer emulators. I dislike having to deal with weaving and swapping plugs through a mess of cables every time I want to switch consoles. And I'm sure this is blasphemy to many of you, but I love the way classic NES games look when filtered and output to an HD tv.

The thing that is cool about some emulation in platforms like Wii for example, it allows for some trickery to get to actual 1920x1080 resolution out say SSBB. I've not experianced this in person but I've seen some screenshots and it looks nice.

That's the part of emulation that's neat; hardware is in software so you can change mod it easily. :)

This is actually a reason I don't care about some emulation (and modding in general, sometimes). Yes, the mods can be cool but things that making it larger or making it prettier looking, I don't really care too much about that. Might be because my TV is 20 years old and couldn't handle that anyway (Skyrim looks like shit SO MUCH on that TV I gotta run it through my capture card and play it on my computer's monitor). I'm not gonna flip my shit over a minor detail change that I wouldn't notice without a side-by-side comparison. To be fair I dunno how big of a change some of these things could be, but even the big changes you do see... I don't feel I need to mod my entire Wii to make Captain Falcon look like Pikachu.

....I don't even play my Wii anyway >_> *cough*

True, and well I like to mess with testing the limited of emulation. That's what got me started. That and the idea of running everything on a single very powerful machine was always something I wanted even when I was a kid. I also do have a desire for authentic preservation too. I kept the hardware for most of the systems, but in reality I don't have the room or time to play them :/ (I also collect vinyl records. kinda the same thing. I do play them on occasion)

You got the inferior version of Skyrim. :( (Seriously half the reason to get that game is the game mods alone!).

On a more serious matter, the lack of HD didn't matter when wii was new since most people had standard ratio. However HD is much more common now, and the Wii output looks downright ugly even if a lot of Nintendo games still have really nice aesthetics, basically jaggy edges everywhere. :/

The Wii also has a lack of shaders, like all Nintendo consoles, and the Wii U as well, as I recently read.
I fact, all hopes are on the tablet controllers, as rumours say the Wii U will probably have less powerful graphics than the XBox 360.
Yes, 360.

Nintendo isn't a graphics whore. They're more about providing good gameplay. The graphics can be super realistic, but if the games suck (or worse, there are no games, see the 3DS disaster) it doesn't help.

Actually, the rumour mill has run both ways.. and ends up influenced by the waves of Microsoft and Sony fanboys.

I heard the Wii U's CPU estimated on-par with the x360, but above the x360 graphically.. but not quite as far as the PS3. >_>

All I got out of @Kiyoshi's post was "BAWWWWW THE GRAPHICS AREN'T PERFECT AND STATE-OF-THE-ART SO I WON'T PLAY IT ;_;".

On the actual topic, I pick the option with the more wide-open used game market.

That is to say, emulation.

I'd take anything I hear about Wii U with a grain of salt since... the rumours centers around the development hardware. Which I wouldn't be surprised if they kept those on bit on the weak side for flexibility.

I'd partially disagree due to the fact that Nintendo focuses a lot on the aesthetics. Which actually matters more than polygon count in the end. Actually for a lot of Nintendo Wii games it's just enough to run the game in a higher resolution make the graphics more impressive and beautiful. It be interesting if Wii U can force this. Right now you have to use dolphin if you let say want to play Skyward sword without loads of jaggies (Intrestingly N64 almost went too far with eradicating jaggies, which is why most found it's graphics blurry).

It also depends on the game admittedly too. 2D games gains nothing by a increased resolution, while 3D games does due to the reduced artifacts. I don't mind low poly or blurry textures, but jaggy edges bugs me a lot now.

Oh yes the N64 is very blurred. I actually like it like that, but others may disagree. Actually, in an emulator if you set the combiner to nearest neighbor you can see how pixelated the N64 really is if it weren't for all the blurring. It's a pretty amazing experience.

Jaggies don't bother me too much to be honest.

I've put gameplay over graphical issues since forever. Needless to say, I only noticed things like jagged edges when replaying Tales of Symphonia for the first 10 minutes or so.. then the rest of the playthrough, I somewhat ignored it due to focus on the game.

Sure, emulators can kill it.. but the real thrill remains in playing a game on original hardware, with the original controller.

PC gaming have spoiled me admittly, such as forcing MSAA filtering on driver level just to get ride of the annoying jaggies.

Amusingly with old consoles like NES and SNES though, I like to simulate the look of those old consoles with a NTSC esque filter that actually slightly degrades the picture. But it's a sort of Anti-aliasing in a way. ;)

I prefer my NES and SNES games pixelated. Smoothing destroys the 8/16-bit feeling for me.

Still a lack of shaders. Although this is probably what Nintendo wants, more polygons, to give that cartoony feel. A few shader effects would be nice though, to give more feeling of depth, give surfaces a shinier polish, and softer shadows.

The N64 should never have been allowed to do 3D at all! Its graphics are downright horrible! Mostly due to lack of textures and polygons.
Which I must add to, later games did quite well in optimizing the microcode (Conker's Bad Fur Day shows what an N64 can really do).

You once again prove that you don't know shit about me, you can't read, or you have a short memory, or any combination of the above.

The Wii has inferior graphics, the innovative controllers and balance board were selling the machine, introducing older people to console gaming as well.

There was a time when indeed Nintendo games were fun, but just look at some titles now:
• Mario Kart 7
• Mario Party 9

The times Nintendo could come up with something original are long gone.

As we see with the 3DS, other developers are losing interest.

I expect Nintendo to end like Sega in 5 years from now, making no new consoles, just games (still lotsa Mario fans out there).

You would be a great creationist, mining quotes out of context like that. As you only seem to be able to memorize a few words, I will emphasize the important ones for you.

But seriously, I still love emulating the Commodore 64, some games are really original, or just plain weird, or have that simple retro feel.
For Nintendo, the Super Nintendo was their best console, there was a lot of creativity in the games back then. I still love playing many games on bsnes.

I actually own a Wii, just for a few innovative games like Wii Fit, WarioWare and SMB Step & Roll. I never liked the Mario games on this console (Galaxy for the camera and voices, NSMB for the terrible blend of different drawing styles and the uninspired levels).

I have no interest in an XBox or PS3, the games for these consoles are only about graphics and violence.
