I Work for The University of Akron in a IT role for the Aux. Department This basically covers Dining and retail, printing and the campus card system. I work on almost everything, from UNIX and Windows servers, to Desktop Support , and Point Of Sale machines.

I'm curious what everyone else does? If you don't work (or if you want to discuss both) but are going to school what's your major?

Used to study Computer Science at UFCG but I dropped out (hate software engineering). This year I'm going to a game design course.

Dropped out of school. Currently looking for a job, even though the prospects aren't all too good.

Currently a trainee teachers assistant at a primary school, working with either a group of 4 children who require extra assistance / support to get through the school day, or going between classes when teachers ask for help. Usually, I just go between the same two classes, but sometimes I'll have to head down into other classes when they are doing lessons such as home economics or science.

I'm planning on returning to college to finish my HNC in Early Education and Childcare, which will allow me, along with my HNC in Social Care and training provided at my current job, to go straight into university to get my BA Honours in Education and Training.

My day job is being on the board's moderation team, seeing as my paying job has me scheduled on the graveyard shift. :/

I'm a physics major (and history minor, if that is ever relevant to anything) at the College of William and Mary, expected to graduate after the spring semester... which is kind of ominous. :P

I'm a self-service attendant.. or a cashier. Prefer it when I get the former to do.

I don't have a day job. I work overnights, from the comfort of my house. Tech support stuff (the kind of thing where you call in to a company for support and someone can't figure out the issue and makes a trouble ticket, I fix those trouble tickets).

Though I'm not one of those "math people" my current plan is to major in chemistry and see where life takes me from there. Though I'm only in year two of my college education, so there's still sufficient time to change if I'm given reason for it.
As far as work, in the Summer I assemble and finalize windows.

I'm a Computer Science major at the Georgia College State University, planning to go into interactive media design, maybe a minor in Literature. I don't have a job job, but I'm gonna try to get one at the library. I've worked in Libraries before, so maybe the experience will help me get one :D

I was thinking about making a similar thread to this--cause i've been rather curious what the oldbies have done/been doing for the past ~10 years.

as for me, i got an associates degree in interior design around 2008 and since then i've been working at Whole Foods Market, working in the kitchen making food all day long.

Two courses away from an ecology, evolution and organismal biology degree (and then onto a Master's or PhD), but I left the university I was studying at due to several issues I was having with faculty there plus running way the fuck out of money. Now I'm just crashing with family for a year til my in-state residency clears and I can take the last classes I need at a CC and send back to complete my degree.

Right now, I'm not doing anything for pay, but I have a stack of unfinished research papers and projects that need finished ASAP, so that's what occupies most of my time when I'm not looking for a job or goofing around.

p.s. hire me

Enlisted in the Air Force in 1997, still on active duty. My job in the military is that I'm a parachute rigger. Been to quite a few deployments, and have traveled to quite a few places (mainly in SE Asia). Was stationed in Japan for nearly 10 years, currently residing in North Carolina.

Normally at work most of the day, hence why I'm not as active (leave for work around 6am, get home between 6-7pm).

right now i do web design, wordpress, and ad serving stuff at a web site with mma coverage and youtube link-dump-esque stuff. next month i'm going to be starting a new job doing php and frontend stuff at a luxury fashion e-commerce site. right after i graduated i did web/flash-based instructional courseware for a government subcontractor.

i think maybe i'm trying to build a really weird resume.

As long as you have Mario Twins in there somewhere. People I know IRL have referenced that. I than say, I know the guy who did the flash :)

FROM THE DESK OF MSPROUT

i went to school for journalism and graduated with my BS in 2010 from a small college here in pittsburgh.

i had a brief stint as a stringer for the pittsburgh tribune-review. had a couple of pieces published and realized i hated journalism.

since then, i worked in advertising doing social media management and digital campaign strategy. i worked for one company called Chemistry Communications and did some work for Ford and helped launch a couple of retail products. i also did a little bit of spec work for IKEA, but it didn't pan out.

now i am working at mullen doing social media strategy. there, i do work for magellan (the gps), random house, some chain restaurants and regional banks and insurance companies. it's not too bad. i don't even have to wear shoes in my office.

You live in Georgia?! I'm originally from Atlanta :o

I'm at one of those hippie liberal arts schools where there aren't any majors. We have divisions, though, and I'm in the Comparative Culture one for master's students. On my second year now, gonna turn in my thesis on Tuesday and graduate in March. Then it's (hopefully) onto PhD track at (hopefully) the same school!

Before that, I did 2 years of research in the Sociology department at another university in Japan (Waseda), and before that I got my bachelor's degree in Linguistics in 3 1/2 years at the University in Georgia. One of those years was spent in Tokyo, however.

I've been in the Air Force for going on 11 years now as an aircraft weapons technician. It sucks, so I'm getting out next year to pursue my lifelong dream of making novelty over-sized pretzels.
