This thread but for vidya.

EDIT: Probably ought to start us off with an example, huh?

One of the more recent moments for me was at the close of the first section of Dragon Quest V.

Your hero is on a quest to save Harry, the Prince of Coburg from being sold into slavery. You meet up with your father, Pankraz, about halfway through the dungeon and find your way to the cell they're holding Harry in. After finding him, you make your way back toward the capitol of Coburg, but not without a hitch... You get stopped right at the exit by Overlord Nimzo's right hand man, Bishop Ladja, and you're forced to watch (in a battle scene, no less) Ladja's henchmen beating Pankraz to death because he's threatening him with your life by holding a scythe to your throat.

What got me was the fact that after your dad gets beaten within an inch of his life and mentions on his dying breath your objective in your quest, he gets obliterated by a fireball... Nothing left of him at all. Your pet great sabrecat cub is left behind while you and Harry are abducted and forced into slavery to build a sacrilegious temple... As the screen fades to black, your cat lays there alone, atop Pankraz's ashes.

A few beautiful moments in games make me want to cry.

Also, one event near the end of Tales of the Abyss made me want to cry too. I'll not spoil it for those who have yet to play it.. or haven't seen it.

I don't cry when I play video games.

I'm just that much of a heartless bitch.

There's a young couple living in Clock Town. One of them, Kafei, has been cursed to be a child and a mask of his was stolen (it's usual for marrying couples to exchange masks you see). You spend three days helping Kafei, who's in hiding, and convincing his fiance Anju to stay (the world is ending so her mother is telling her to leave and forget Kafei). If you decide to do it, you can help Kafei and Anju by getting Kafei his mask. He then runs back to Clock Town to marry Anju, who will be waiting for him. It was their promise to be married on the night of the Carnival of Time you see.

So you stand with Anju and wait for Kafei. And you wait for Kafei. And he doesn't show up, until just a few minutes before the world is about to end. They marry, and promise to await the sunrise together. They don't care about the end of the world, they just have each other.

MY FUCKING EYES ARE TEARING UP, DAMMIT.

I haven't actually cried but I've gotten teary eyes or been very close to crying.

The prime example is probably Phantasy Star IV when Alys dies. This is also why it's my absolute favorite game. Another example is when, in FFVII, you get to know the truth about Red XIII's father.

There are moments of perfect visual and/or audio harmony that just makes me tear up like a little wuss. It's hardly the emotional shit, more just musical, sometimes accentuated by the perfect video.

Oh man I forgot the ending to Bastion...

Not the ENDING ending, but the part leading up to the ending after your first choice. I chose the "good" option and.... it made me teary eyed. I was like "No other game I can think of has this IMPACT". Majora's Mask maybe, but that was pretty intense.

Replaying Tales of Symphonia for the.. 7th or so time.. I still weep at some of the beautiful sections of the game, including when Corrine sacrifices itself to save Sheena.

Final Fantasy 7 was the only game that made me cry. I was 8 at the time. At the end of the first disc.

Two other games made me want to cry: Radical Dreamers (also at the end) and Shadow of the Colossus.

Playing through Final Fantasy II made me realize how much sadness there is to that story. It's also very well written, so the emotion is conveyed in a great way.

When you go to Fynn to prove your worth to Princess Hilda, you find Prince Scott in the pub mortally wounded. After speaking with him for a while, he tells you things to relay to the rebels in Altair, and initially tells you to relay his love for Hilda... Only for him to retract the request because of his strength fading so quickly... Only to have him mention moments later about feeling weak and needing to rest, to have him collapse to the floor and die.

Later on, you find out about the rebel support in Salamand that was lead by a man named Josef. The rebels noticed they weren't getting the support from Salamand in Semite Mine, only to realize that the imperials had used Josef's daughter as extortion to prevent him from leading the Mythril operation. After having sorted that out, Josef joins you a while later to investigate a snow cave north of Salamand to get into Kashuan Keep. Getting through all of the trials there doesn't come without a price... Because as your team is making their way out, you get ambushed by General Borghen. When the battle is over, Borghen knows he's going to die, and as a last ditch effort to take you with him, he releases a boulder that barrels down the corridor in an attempt to crush you. Josef makes the ultimate sacrifice by stopping the boulder in barely enough time for your trio to escape, but not without the cost of his life.

There are a few other times through the course of the game where you're brought to know an NPC, and start to empathize with them, when something dealing with the Empire comes along and abruptly kills them. Although a bit morbid, it's a great way to instill hated toward Palamecia and everything the Emperor is trying to achieve.

I've got a tear jerked out of me in a couple games but one of the moments that hit me the most was in Final Fantasy 4.

You have just beat one of the elemental archfiends and were leaving the castle but you sadly fall into a trap. As you walk into a hallway you hear the archfiend talk saying you will join him in the underworld. At that moment the walls begin to close in on you and your party. You can't get out because both doors are locked, the situation seems hopeless. That is when the two small children in your party (who were mages in training) step up and look at each other. The party wonders what they are up to as they soon start to say goodbye and thank everyone. As the walls get closer they cast break on themselves to turn to stone and stop the walls. Sad music begins to play as the sage in the party does his best to cast esuna on the twins, but it sadly has no effect since they became stone willingly. That's when the party swears to the twins that they will get revenge on the man responsible and head off to their airship.

I know there were plenty of times, when I cried to a game, but. I honestly can't remember what ones they were, but...

Yeah..Final Fantasy X and XII. Final Fantasy X made me want to cry when you get To Zanarkand. That Clip that plays is just...wow.

And also the very end of the game, when somehow he comes back to Spira, and rejoins with Luna, I cried there too. I knew love makes people cry but, even seeing it in a game is enough to make me tear up.
