Quick question for you all, what do you like most about ROM hacking?
I like the sheer freedom that it creates with games and the challenge it can give with some games to use their tools etc. - it gives you the ability to learn advanced things. Though I haven't done much extensive ROM hacking I can safely say that if I did these two things are the things that make ROM hacking worth it. Plus the fact you are sharing your creations to others for enjoyment and not for profit, too. ____________________ Good riddance! |

I just like the simplicity about ROM hacking.
Not taking your console apart and installing a modchip (looking at you Microsoft), and no bans since it's not online. I need to put something here |

It's simple on consoles like the Wii, DS and a few others I forgot about. It doesn't require all that extra money. I need to put something here |

I do have some flash carts for GB(C), GBA and DS since I like to play Pokémon ROM hacks on real hardware (mostly stuff like randomizers or "Crystal 251" hacks or similar) Also a Genesis EverDrive for Sonic hacks, can't really play on an emulator much anymore "Miracles happen, when you believe..."

♥10505 ✿4495 ★20 I used to be really into ROM hacking because I wanted to create my own games, but didn't have the skill to create my own engines-- additionally, working within the aesthetic constraints of a console is a lot of fun (and can cover for limited graphical ability ) |

Well when I was a little kid and first discovered the internet, (Yes, believe it or not I'm not a little kid) it immediately fascinated me because I was really into Nintendo at the time and I really loved the idea of creating my own games out of my favorite games.
I only actually attempted to do so for a brief period of time, and I was so god damn bad at it that I often stole assets from other hacks to get the result I wanted because I couldn't hope to do it myself. However, it had taught me some valuable skills in making my own games, which is something I've been wanting to do for ages, and am trying to get rolling on now. Posted by IceFairyAmy I will wholeheartedly agree here, the joy of sharing creations for enjoyment was always something that drew me not only to ROM hacking ages ago but to the internet in general. ____________________ Giant Paratroopa Affected by 'Wooster Syndrome' ++++!! For me probably custom textures. I enjoy "drawing" (mostly editing) existing textures to make new ones and injecting them into the game ROM, or loading them externally using HD texture features in emulators. |

What I like most about hacking is Super Mario World.
But the problem is that there is no SMW hack section here ____________________ working in: Sonck's Adventures |
