I'm doing a hard mode run of Metroid Prime right now. I have never played hard mode Metroid Prime; it's definitely living up to the title. I was getting my shit wrecked pretty hard earlier. Right now, though, I'm almost done with the game -- heading back into Phazon Mines to take down Omega Pirate. I have basically everything I can get at this point and I still have a feeling that I'm gonna get creamed. (I keep using so many missiles. I'm actually kinda worried I won't have enough for Omega Pirate.)
Actually, that's not a problem. Use the charge beam more often. It has more than enough force to keep things away from you in most cases. Also, don't under-estimate the power that a charged Ice Beam shot has. One of those and a single missile often works for things which take a lot more.

I'm kinda on a one-track mindedness with Mario Kart 8 (Zing!)

I'm working on the 150cc now. it's proving to be difficult for my Medium-class mains... Hell, I had to do the 100cc Lightning Cup as Toad since light characters seem to perform better for me when I get frustrated. If I ever race any of you guys, you should still expect me to be Luigi or Ludwig.

It's not so much the enemies I'm worried about (most of which are immune to the Ice Beam anyway, except the Metroids and (natch) the Ice Troopers, who are still a hilariously ill-advised enemy) so much as Omega Pirate. The enemies are all pretty easy (although it kinda hurts me to see that one super missile no longer one-shots Power Troopers). The charged Plasma Beam actually does pretty nicely against Omega Pirate, which I'm glad for, seeing as, even with a capacity of 245, that was my primary concern as far as missiles go. In fact, I think that the Plasma Beam may be even better than the Super Missile in this case, which is great, meaning I can save that for the Power Troopers when they show up.

I never even used the Missiles against non-Omega Pirate stuff. I just powerbombed them as they spawned.. Yes. I saved the Power Bombs for that. ;)

The highest damage-per-shot is the Ice Spreader combo. It's slow, but it certainly packs a punch should it hit its target.

I'm gonna go ahead and try the Power Bombs again. For some reason, I think they weren't really working against the Troopers, but if they can be taken out by those, then that's great, since I have all of the Power Bomb tanks and that would mean that I wouldn't have to resort so much to my strategy of "kill one, then focus on Omega Pirate". (EDIT: Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure they're immune to Power Bombs in hard mode. I just dropped two on a group of them and they didn't react at all.)

I never really think I had any realization of how good the Ice Spreader is, probably because I really only ever used it against Metroid Prime itself.

I've noticed that he summons a LOT of Wave Troopers. Which is fine, since even though, yeah, they typically take six charged shots to down, the Wave Beam charges pretty fast compared to other beams, I've noticed.

Also, I think I can safely say that this is the biggest jump in difficulty that I've noticed from normal to hard mode so far.

EDIT: I beat him, after dying probably as many times against him as I had through the entire rest of the game to this point.

I've gotten all of the scans in Metroid Prime except for the ones in Impact Crater, have all of the items, and am generally very nearly done with the game. The first form of the final boss was pretty easy, if damaging, but the second... I had some serious trouble keeping it targeted. (Also it barely moved, so it spent lengthy periods of time on top of the thing I need to stand in t even hurt it.)

I started to play Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 since I bought it on Wii U and Mario Kart 8 is seriously starting to piss me off with the bullshit in the 150cc (I have yet to finish a Grand Prix).

The first thing I notice, aside from the fact that my controller is acting up, is that Nintendo's GBA emulation is kinda shitty. There's graphical glitching and artifacting when the screen is supposed to be black and empty... Something you see in a poorly handled emulator... Not sure if I'm happy with that.

Other than that, the game seems to be fine.

I figured I would take a stab at 1001 Spikes.

Lemme just say this first: This game is really fucking player-hostile.

I get that old games were hard (a shit ton harder than modern games, by far), but that was mostly due to poor design or shoddy programming. This game is neither. The controls are spot on and tight, the levels are cleverly put together, but the learning curve of the stages is mind blowing.

The tutorial "world" starts you off softly, but once you hit "world 2", which is the game proper, the game immediately drops the kiddy stuff and immediately sodomizes the player with the entirety of a ten foot dildo complete with the girth of a soda can.

I cannot find a game like this enjoyable. I can only stand to play it in short, ten minute, sittings before I get controller-throwingly pissed off at it. I already have enough problems with my one controller that fits in my hands, I don't need a broken shell to go along with it.

Needless to say, I'm only playing it in the short bursts that I am because I can't demand that Nintendo remove the game from my account and refund my ten dollars.

I give the game an unwanted sodomy out of ten.

I've really gotten sick of this whole design ethic lately where games just want you to die all the goddamn time. I would so much rather be given something that well and truly challenges me mentally.

Speaking of dying a lot, I beat Metroid Prime hard mode today. Total deaths: 16. Died three times against Metroid Prime, but it was actually a satisfying type of difficult. I kind of had to think a little, plan out how to use my resources. Well, that and the game wouldn't stop giving me like a million fucking missiles for several runs when what I needed was HEALTH. Omega Pirate was about raw skill, but unless you knew how to prioritize targets and how to best deal with them, this wouldn't have helped you.

(Meta Ridley, though, who I usually find harder than Prime, was a total pusswag and was more tedious than anything.)

Back to Mario Kart 8. I have most of the 150cc completed now. All I have left is the Lightning Cup, which is proving to be as big of a pain as the Special Cup was.

Considering how the 150cc is being a royal pain in my nuts, I'm not going to enjoy the mirror circuit. Not only do I have to put up with the bullshit AI, I also have to relearn all sixteen tracks. Dandy!

Well, since everyone else is playing Mario Kart 8 and I don't have a Wii U, I figured I'd play some of the most recent Mario Kart game I own, that being Double Dash. Holy shit, though, the Mirror cups...

It's bad enough that they fuck your muscle memory, but I'm pretty sure the AI is even harder than in 150cc. (Note that I'm saying this for MKDD, I don't know about MK8.)

I just rounded out Wario Land 4 on Wii U Virtual Console.

Cleared it 100% on Normal mode. It was a nice warm up. I may be ready for Hard or S-Hard later on. The only differences between game modes that I'm aware of are escape/boss timers and treasure values.

I still need to finish Mario Kart 8's mirror mode, but the Banana Cup is giving me a shitload of trouble. It really pisses me off how I lost the lead on Peach's Castle (N64) last night. I hit the last item box of the race, got the Super Horn from it, thought to myself "Shit yeah! This race is mine!" I round the last turn before the finish line, get hit by a lightning bolt and lose my horn to it, I think to myself "Alright, I can still power through this as long as I don't see--" before I can finish my self reassurance I see a MOTHERFUCKING BLUE SHELL COME ON THE RADAR, immediately go into "Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" mode. I got hit RIGHT AT THE FINISH LINE and got passed into fourth place before I could recover.

Actually. Let me throw this one at you. Not only are the escape and boss timers changed, but the locations of enemies and treasures are changed. Some are put in areas hard to reach on normal mode.. or places very easy to overlook.

Addendum:

In Normal Mode could be considered Easy Mode, while Hard Mode is the 'true' normal mode.

Super hard mode is bullshit however. The frog timers are placed in inconvenient places (some at the beginning of the level) and they give you an insanely small amount of time for completing levels?

Want to know how much time they give you to beat the first boss? 15 seconds. It's worth noting I have never managed to beat it while the other two modes are mostly a breeze.
