Just wondering if my layout looks okay? It's based off the Final Fantasy IX classic windows.

Going for the home-y feel. I think I like this layout since things on the table may change from time to time. :D

I think it would look better without the image on the right but I love the rest of it~

KLayout 4.0
Well, the sky is falling.

I went against my usual :effort: and made an original CSS with a slightly less original background image. This layout was meant for the boardc news engine, but I liked it enough that I ported it here.

The "porting" also counts as a little test I made - the original script wasn't "designed" for an inline CSS tag, so I used a simple PHP script to strip out newlines and tabs. This makes it a lot better than working directly with the inline CSS (like I did with my previous layout).

Sample Link
You may or may not be able to recognize where I stole this grid background from.

A christmas layout that's much to soon, I assume. >_>

and I've had this one for a month, heh. Stealing using those Jul backgrounds for my layout is a thing i'll probably keep doing in the future as well.. :P

I've been pretty much using the same basic layout style for about 5 years now ;) Only thing I change is the fonts and background usually :P

I should make a new layout; just hard to find new pictures of Nei these days.

So I dug up my old RE4 inspired layout from the I2 archive, and I have no idea how I did it.

As the sig implies, Fyxe helped me out with the original code which I then customized, but I've completely forgotten what that was after all this time. Plus, it's not like I'm currently able to log in to the archive and find out for myself at this point.

In essence, I'm basically looking to figure out how to bring back the border style format with the properly aligned picture to the right, which I've seen others do. Anyone have any insight as to how I could do that?

Some still use tables for easy vertical and horizontal alignment, but I think with a layout like that you could simply use two divs, first one with the plain white background and a no-repeat background image aligned to the right, and the second one with a border + outline (or border-image, but it works basically in the same way). Basically this idea, more or less:

<style>
.bg {background: #FFF url(http://i.imgur.com/mDVNvc0.png) no-repeat right; padding: 5px 190px 5px 5px; min-height: 200px;}
.innerBox {background: #040; border: 2px solid #000; outline: 1px solid #000; outline-offset: -4px; padding: 5px; color: #FFF;}
</style><div class="bg"><div class="innerBox">

Result. Is it close to what you were looking for? Of course, the specific padding values would need to be adjusted to how far away you want the postbox from the postarea's border, and one of the values would be of the image's width. Colors and the image would be adjusted (along with the class names to make sure it's something unique that won't be used by anyone else), obviously, but the main concept is there.

That's pretty much what I've been going for, thank you! The only issues that I'm seeing is that the alignment of the rest of the picture to the right isn't very consistent, and the background and image seems to not go to the end of the frame.

Ideally, Reinhart's head should always be aligned with the top of the frame, with the rest of the body and background extending down to fill up that blank space at the bottom. Any ideas?

background: #000 url(http://i.imgur.com/mKJu4y3.png) no-repeat right top;

The image can be algined to the top, center or the bottom of the post. Second, CSS can't do miracles, empty spaces on the images themsleves are still considered part of the image. To make sure the image is perfectly aligned to the top of the post, the empty space at the top needs to be removed as much as possible.

A few other things: change the "bg" and "innerBox" names to something more descriptive so they don't conflict with anything else that may use such generic names on the future.

In order to make it occupy the entire frame, add a min-height: 350px; to the first element. If it still doesn't occupy the entire frame, just up the value a bit. Don't use a value much higher than you need though.

And for my 3500th post, I decided to dust off an old layout for old time's sake ^_^ I think I used this on Taryn's defunct board and on Jul during 2011/early 2012
