I found this to be very revealing of the disconnect between the new and old.

The difference here is that Swartz's actions still left original copies in place, he did not walk in and take the only possible copies of these articles, he just made new ones, which was within his rights as a campus library user. Now, he did cross matters a bit by breaking into the closet, I agree, but to conflate this with stealing the only copies existing at a library just highlights how out of touch the older generation is with the Shiny 'New' Digital Future.

If true, this would be very impressive. We've recognized the ability of microbes in the past to be able to synthesize environmental toxins (well, for us and many other macroorganisms they are toxins.. maybe not for certain microbes ). I have not yet read the actual research this is based on (was planning on going looking for PDFs later today)... but based on the WSJ article, this is very exciting, especially considering how long we expected the recovery in the Gulf to take from an environmental standpoint. Now we just have to see wait for the social and economic recoveries.

I've worked too hard at a high typing speed for transcription on QWERTY to even consider a switch. I can retype from oral speaking or reading at roughly 122 wpm.

I mean I've looked into Dvorak and I can see how it would offer a superior typing experience, but my muscle memory is so hard drilled into QWERTY that the switch would be extremely challenging and I'm just not interested for something so minor.
