Ever "fixed" an HDMI issue by using the VGA port instead (with CRT monitor, of course)?

Zen

this comes from one of Jul's special schemes and it's a very green theme, with kind of neon-ish(?) table header colors. fortunately, I like green

also, it's a bit of a mystery who actually made this originally! it was probably made by Xkeeper, but since there's no explicit info for who made most of the "special schemes", well... >_>

it's the same thing!... except it's using the proper "Windows Classic" theme this time around. I should really think up something to replace that background with, but :effort:

there's also a bunch of outdated crap in the desktop which has no real reason to be there anymore or just plain misnomers. heh

hey hey, thanks all. didn't really expect to see this one... especially with my activity. or rather, its lack thereof >_>

aaaanyway, it's been an alright :toot:/:toot2: day, even if nothing special really happened. I'll probably remember the day more for finally getting around to install a CIOS on my Wii, of all things. <_<

I should try eventually the Wario Land randomizers out there (for 3 and 4), especially since I'm very familiar with those games. I've had 4 from the childhood days, and 3 since 2009/2010 or so, though unfortunately there isn't one for the first game yet.

...that said, randomizers are one of those things which I keep saying "I'll play this eventually" and that "eventually" isn't yet around. >_>

I haven't tried Linux in a couple of years, but I remember trying out Mint MATE on a VM back in the "college" days and it was a good option with good customizability and a recognizable interface coming from Windows.
It also wasn't trying to be a tablet interface on a desktop machine, which was (and still is) always a good thing in my eyes.

I should get back into this, but probably this will only happen once I'm forced off the Windows 7 laptop

I have kind of a mix between a palm and fingertip grip, mostly the former though.

Obviously this depends on the mouse I use too. At some point I had to use an horrible cheap Chinese mouse, which was too flat and it felt very unnatural to use.
For things like that I had a "proper" fingertip grip... and needless to say, I don't miss using that mouse at all. :P

Well, at least here... what monitor? :P

Work setup: 2 1080p monitors + the internal one from the laptop (which is also 1080p)
Here at home: laptop resolution of 1366x768. that's it

It's not really a problem though -- I've been used to this resolution for almost 10 years now. >_>

Sometimes a VGA port is all you need*

*a VGA port on a desktop computer, that is; when the HDMI ports gives trouble.
and of course the perfectly logical thing to do is to hook up a Syncmaster CRT and get a screen resolution of 1024x768 / 85hz.
that said, this was a temporary setup that became kind of permanent...

Got a very disappointing ending for a 1cc of Bust-a-Move Again (VS CPU) at normal difficulty.

No ending or credits sequence. 90's localization, everybody :V

I've been also having a go at trying to 1cc the VS CPU mode of 4 which, at least to me, is more frustrating than it has any right to be.

The Acmlmboard Archive

Q: Why this?
A: Well, why not? It would be nice to have an archive of the past/present Acmlmboards out there for preservation purposes, especially since quite a bit of versions have since disappeared off the net, or were never released to begin with.
As far as I'm aware, this has been attempted before many years ago, but no surviving archive still exists.

Currently this archive covers the 1.x versions, as well an archive of the Acmlmboard Hacks people used to make back then.

The entries are generally ordered by date from the oldest to newest, and with few exceptions provide:
  • The original versions*, which should run unmodified on PHP 5.3.8 if register_globals is enabled
  • A fixed version which targets PHP 7.1, usually as a separate archive
  • A thorough changelog detailing what's new / updated compared to the closest older version.
Of course, contributions are welcome. If you can provide a version of Acmlmboard (be it 1.x or 2.x) or anything related to them, feel free to bug me via PM / IRC / Discord / what have you (or just reply to this thread, I guess :V).

Special thanks to various people for their direct and indirect contributions to this project.

TODO:
  • Archiving the 2.x versions properly
  • Acmlmboard Zero may be included in the future. I don't think versions after 2018 were publically released though.
  • Versions with a git repository available aren't included in full yet. I'm not quite sure how to handle those.

*for few versions I unfortunately couldn't provide the original untouched version.
While the changes are incredibly minor, I marked them with a "_d" at the end of the file name.
Hopefully I'll eventually be allowed to share the full unmodified versions. That said, the original versions are definitely getting preserved, just not publically.

i assume all the security issues are as-is, correct
correct. the "fixed" versions only update the code to work on PHP 7.1 and provide an install file/db dump. nothing more, nothing less.

Posted by Kaj
are the 2.0x versions still a secret recipe? I haven't been keeping up with the shenanigans lately
the 2.x versions have quite a few problems which makes archiving properly difficult and this is likely gonna take a while. but yeah eventually they'll be getting added.

This laptop has around 300GB of internal storage, which is... not much. There's quite a bit of useless crap I could delete / move out too, but I probably won't until I'll be forced to. For reference, I have about 5GB of free space left. >_>

Anyway, most of the data which takes up a significant amount of space is stored in a 4 TB external HD (with a backup on a second, newer, 4TB HD).

...I still don't have a NAS yet. >_>

It snowed this morning, because you know, we definitely needed mid-April snow.
If I were younger I'd have appreciated something like this more.

Part of me still does, in a way, considering how it basically never snows here. :p

Been getting more consistent 1cc's of The NewZealand Story.
I've managed to do the route with warps and the long warpless one, both at Hard difficulty.

Once I'm confident enough, I'll try and see how's the hardest difficulty of what's considered an already difficult game. :D

A fun thing is that when you get to this point, the difference between this and other versions like the FM Towns one become more obvious. It's the best home port of the game and many of the strats of the arcade version work, but still there are differences to throw you off, like:
  • Enemies spawning in at the start of the level before you can move, making them very hard to dodge
  • Points where enemies die and don't respawn, and you basically have to lose a life to continue (a section in 4-4 being a bad offender).
  • Not being able to spam shots as fast. While I don't know if this is just an effect of the emulator, this directly leads to...
  • The final boss being faster, meaning you can't spam the shoot button in a safe spot. :p
For comedy I should try again the X68k version, which (surprisingly) feels off, has broken movement and other insane changes for the worse.
