The correct option is to clean the contacts, maybe replace the sockets or stick a fan in there¹ But since it's a rare and quite old machine, and I don't trust my soldering skills... *drop*

Honestly I'd only get an Apple /// if I saw an insanely good deal or was given one for free or something; it's not a machine I have much interest in... certainly not for the prices they go for these days.

Most of my machines aren't rare, they just have software or something else I want to try out; but I don't know what I'd do with an Apple ///.

Yes, but only because the Amiga 4000 is higher spec and can run more software; I'd rather have the 1200 with an accelerator card to give it the specs and faster processor, as I think the 1200 is a better-looking machine.

Either would be a great companion to my souped-up Amiga 1000, though

6800, 6502, or 6809?

I can't think of a single reason why you would choose the 6800 over the 6809, so even though I don't have any 6800-based machines, I feel alright eliminating that option.

While the 6809 is a beast of a processor (current champion of the Nicole Simulator), it's really held back by the fact that pretty much all the consumer machines that use it also use the MC6847 graphics chip, which to call "nothing special" is too much of a compliment. And it's not a coincidence; the two were a deliberate pair. (I know the CoCo 3 exists, but... eh)

Really the 6502 (and its minor variations) was in many of the most interesting machines; the Apple ][, the NES, the 8-bit Commodores and Ataris, even the TurboGrafx-16. So it's got to get my vote. It's also the only one of the three I've coded for

Bad capacitors are the worst... very glad my Turbo Duo is already recapped so I don't have to risk trying to fix it myself. (Downside: I still need to fix the CD drive, and for all I know the person who recapped it is responsible for it not working...)

You know, if you have a device that's violating FCC radio interference rules, they have the right to come into your premises, confiscate it, and put a hefty fine on you?

Now, of course, they probably won't do that for putting a 32X on a CDX... but I hear it's kind of unwieldy and doesn't balance well. Really wish they made the Neptune...
