hello thread, long time no see. what's been happening since the little adventure with Black and Blue?

moved out from my parents' home, transitioned, been through squats and shit...

during development of melonDS, and wifi reverse-engineering, Black has been a good companion DS (was helpful to have two), and it still works absolutely fine. my original white DS also works well but shows some signs of fatigue.

eventually, I was able to retrieve a whole bunch of shit from my childhood bedroom... including the leftover parts from Blue. I brought all of these back, even the motherboard, which I figured would be good for parts since it was dead.

after having successfully fixed a couple 68k Macs, I wondered if I could use my newly acquired skill to fix Blue...

and, well



through the power of BODGE WIRES, Blue lives again! sorta

basically: the VDET signal (which is used to determine whether the battery is working) wasn't making it to the power management IC. I had a suspicion it'd be an issue of that vein.

I don't know where and how the break occured in the PCB, but it's worth reminding you that Blue was in terrible shape originally, with signs that something had been spilled into it, so... yeah. kind of a miracle to even see it working again, actually.

now I want to finish touching up the motherboard and see if I can actually rebuild a complete DS. I have almost all the parts needed for that...

would also help seeing if Blue has any other faults.

so far:

* I need SMD fuses! keeping these bridged isn't too safe.
* the connector for the touchscreen is broken
* I need to put back the cart slots, I'd removed them to clean up underneath
* the rubber contact things for the buttons are missing, presumably cannibalized to replace the failing ones in my original DS
* I need a genuine top screen -- the one seen above is a bad cheapo one, good for testing purposes but that's about it
* not sure how viable Blue's case is, as some of the parts are broken

long time I didn't post a dream here, have several I should post... anyway... last night

at some point I was invited in that apartment I squatted in late 2018 -- apparently a group of young squatters (not my friends, completely stranger to me) opened it up and made home in there, and I was looking around and finding that fairly cool. except the place was much bigger than it actually was, had multiple rooms and could accomodate a group of 5 people or more. there was also some roof terrace thing accessible from the windows and I presumed that was how they got in.

at another point I was working at some government office thing or whatever. I had to get ready for something really important, but all I had to wear was pajamas, and, well

last dream involved a lot of things I guess?

a part that takes place in some squat or something? large building. not sure if I live there? the room where I'm supposed to sleep isn't quite a bedroom and leads to underground floors.

anyway, in that same room, several guests come to play poker, and they're doing lots of cocaine, which comes in neat little bags with lace on the borders. meanwhile I think I'd be okay for drugs but not that one.

at some point I'm a bit pissed at that because I want to sleep, or smth...

I figured I'd start writing down my dreams again, however my memory ain't very good these days. like this night -- I had dreams but I don't remember enough to form an interesting story.

anyway.

some place, going somewhere with friends. climbing a spiral staircase. that friend talks about his feet... another friend pops up and we talk about his too...

I get to fifth floor. enter the apartment of that fat girl who makes videos... it's weird tho. she made a video where at the end she poops and just throws it on the floor. the apartment floor is, uh, dirt, as if we were outside.

so I actually go outside -- the apartment is at ground level now.

weird.

parents' home. in my room, thinking about the way the air conditioner is installed. apparently it spits out condensation water in the attic, just on the floor like that...

later, we need to find some radiator part. dad and me go to the workshop and comb through shit, I find several radiator parts (in the wrong place) but not what we want...

later, in the living room, alone, thinking about Gaul history. apparently they had universities and shit and girls could get some sort of honors if they did well. also thinking about how France has existed for longer than Gaul now...

fun dream bits I remember


several occurences of my parents' kitchen, but there's that problem where the furniture along the wall are too long and get in the door's way. at some point they found a solution where they just attached every furniture piece together, and the door is just, uh, blocked behind.

they're preparing some good meals.

I go to the bathroom upstairs to take a shower. but someone dumped some food in the shower (wat??). so I think I'm just gonna remove it and be fine...

but the the delivery guy shows up outside, my sister and mom are there to receive a big package. I don't recall what it contains, swimming pool stuff? I go out (teleport) to the court where they are, and there's that pile of blue and black stuff, they got the materials for building a second swimming pool. well, ok...


another bit in a lecture hall, with a whole bunch of students, some lecture going on. I'm really jolly and mostly just derping around.

later on I leave the lecture hall and just wander in the building. apparently I'm afterglowing and that's why I feel so good.


another scene in what is my apartment (completely different from reality), there's music playing from my TV...


some bit in crapo-grandpa's house, some weird setup that involves things plugged to a power strip just hanging in midair outside near a window of the last floor... weird.

parents' house.

in the living room, a row of desks w/ computers, univ style. I'm on one of these, trying to do something... mom talks to me about drugs, ask me if I've ever done '47k ecstasy'... (yes, 47k, as if it was a resistor) I respond that nope, but think about maybe bringing up other drugs I've done... but I don't.

later, talking with mom, following her in one of the rooms. don't quite remember what was going on. anyway, the bedroom has some nice decoration, horizontal woodpaneling for the bed corner, that stops in a stylish staggered fashion, it's really neat, although I can notice it's damaged.
