♥13346 ✿4508 ★28 Posted by DarkWitchClaire the atari falcon but to be fair, i've never used one, it just seems pretty sweet plz e-mail me one so i can try it out Posted by Danika I feel like I just answered this with "Tandy 1000HX"? Even had a whole explanation about how keyboards should be built into the computer more often but that I wish they had made it a little longer to shove in full-size ISA cards, that would make it the perfect XT-class machine Posted by AtomicAstro The PC-FX Rolfee tries her best okay Posted by Danika Star Wars Arcade I think? Haven't really delved into the 32X library that deeply. |

♥13351 ✿4508 ★28 Posted by Danika Oh yes! I mean, the arcade1up I have is fine, but like, nothing beats a real 500-pound thick wooden beast with a CRT. Leave it on coin mode so I can monetize my friends Downside: I live on the third floor and have very narrow stairs (and of course, no elevator) Posted by DarkWitchClaire I need more expansion cards to make a fair claim... the Disk ][ is legendary though, for its sheer ubiquity and also how Woz implemented it. Fastest disk drive by using the least additional hardware! |

♥13352 ✿4508 ★28 Posted by Danika I'd rather try Windows ME on a Core i9 Posted by DarkWitchClaire The Disk ][ for its sexy 1979 looks (Sadly I have an Apple 5.25" Drive, which isn't quite as pretty but at least it has the proper Apple logo) |

♥13354 ✿4508 ★28 Posted by Danika That Sinclair "Microdrive" that used tiny 8-track tapes. Not even sure that qualifies as a disk drive, but they definitely presented it as one, even put it on their business computer. If it doesn't count, the Mitsumi QuickDisk might be up there too, a format designed to be made proprietary for each system that used it, and encodes data on a spiral like a tape rather than actually using sectors for random access. And the Famicom Disk System's variant is the worst; the disk drive is hardcoded to be unable to rewrite the entire disk and can only write to parts of it. And its rubber belts are particularly failure-prone to boot. All that effort didn't even manage to stop piracy, so what was the point? Maybe it slowed them down... a little. And yes, I still love the FDS. But from a technical standpoint it is just awful. Posted by DarkWitchClaire The classic Mac ones that could store more data using variable-speed motors. Of course, that was cut for cost-saving reasons when they moved to HD disks, but hey, it was pretty cool in its time. Also used those slick computer-side eject mechanisms. Posted by shan It can already happen, if you choose a different posts-per-page |

♥13356 ✿4508 ★28 Posted by Danika A Maine Coon Mary's old roommate had briefly. What a mammoth boy Posted by DarkWitchClaire Well it would be CompactFlash if not for the fucking terrible tiny pin-based physical interface So instead I'll choose a boring option, full-size SD. A card size big enough to be noticeable and findable if you drop it, support for an easily-implementable SPI mode, ubiquitous, and has a stupid logo with some interesting history. It's basically the modern successor to the floppy disc. Even if nowadays it mostly survives as "that weird adaptor that you can put microSD cards into" |
