The world is at an end... GreyMaria may finally fall off the face of the internet... | Mom says she doesn't have my 3DS. Fighting ensued; woman is claiming she's going to throw me out of the house. I'm not rolling over any more. This is my shit.

I don't know when I'll be able to type a better post than what I put in my IRC channel's topic...

E: No police, no getting dragged into the car...

Okay, let's see.

Now, mind you, I'm 18 and not living in Texas, so anything I buy with money that I make at a job is mine.

About a week ago, my mother decided to "take away" my 3DS because I was using it for my own purposes (instead of accepting the constant schoolwork grindstone she was forcing my nose to).

Now, from my understanding, if the item was not willingly surrendered with the intention of it being a loaner, a gift, or a sold item, this action would classify as theft.

So I got assertive. Verbally assertive; I wanted to make it clear I meant business. She refused to surrender the stolen property. Instead, she declared that I was not to get it back until her conditions were met, or else I would be thrown out of the house.

So, a bit frustrated, I backed down. Reminded her every couple of days that I wanted my property back. She refused every time.

Today, I got fed up with it. I got absolutely fucking fed up with it and just started searching her bedroom for it.

So what's she tell me? "It's not here."

I refused to accept that. Regardless of the fact that "it's not here" would mean "trafficking of stolen goods". I kept searching. She got pushy. I stood my ground.

Then she grabbed me. Tried to throw me off the bed as I was trying to climb into the attic to look for my 3DS.

A bit of a restraining brawl ensued; she decided she was going to call the cops on me for what I can only assume is trespassing. (Those cops haven't arrived yet. I don't think she made the call.) I fought with the sole intention of obtaining her phone to prevent such an undesirable outcome. I didn't win.

So now I'm barred in my bedroom from the inside, with an extension cord running from the only outlet with power in my room, with evidence and absolute necessities in my pockets, typing this up to you guys and wishing my boyfriend were around to tell about the news...

E2: I believe my time here is up, at least for now. We shall see... :x

E3: oh god... oh god it's Dad. oh god oh god oh god ;_;

Well, there's one very common misconception that fresh ex-minors have and that's the idea that just because you're no longer a minor that you are entitled to anything an adult would be entitled to.

Reality check: If you're still living at your parents house, they still reign over you. They still make the rules, and if you can't abide by them, then you might be asked to leave. In this case, "theft" doesn't apply. You are a dependent of your parent still and they have the right to take actions such as taking away your 3DS. The cops are going to tell you that too. If you leave your parents' home, and you ask for your belongings, they are obligated to give them to you. They are NOT obligated to supply you with food and shelter.

Hope everything turns out best for you. Trust me on this one, I speak from personal experience.

They still have it, though. I've already set out to forge my own way; shopping tablets at Staples now...

Why don't you call the cops on them for stealing your stuff?

Sorry about that, I was going to type this up first thing but then I got caught up in boyfriend. <3

Things are a bit different now. My parents had, late that day, called me up and told me to come back home so we could work things out.

It's a shallow victory. I do have my property back, and I purchased myself a nice laptop, but I'm not allowed to be on the internet.

I stole the new wireless key from Dad's laptop, so I'm flagrantly violating that last part. I'm not going to let them find out about it.

They have apparently decided that I need mental help.

Haha, wtf? For what? They're gonna send you to a shrink and say you got a bad case of the internet? Ridiculous.

Well, I'm not really trying to be rude, but it is possible to view someone and believe they have anger issues when the person in question expects the world to be one way while the world is in fact another way. By your parents' logic, everyone who is angered by the US Government should see a shrink.

But I just hope you take things in strides and explore the extremes of your options. Sometimes you just have to DO stuff instead of guessing what might happen. No matter how much you think things through, they just might turn out to happen much differently than you've planned, and that just might be a good thing.

My advice for your situations would be to plan a schedule, and stick to it. It sounds like your parents are the sort that want a strong sense of order from what I can gather, so making a schedule of things to do and then recreation blocks to relax should be beneficial for both sides as I see it.

As KP said above, explore your options. Sometimes, a similar but slightly different approach makes a very big difference.
