Winamp Media Player, perhaps one of the best media players for Windows, is being closed down after over 16 years in development (I've been using Winamp since my 95 days :D)

I'm really going to miss Winamp, but at least there's still many skins/plugins/etc. for it :( Anyone else going to miss whipping the llama's ass? ;)

As far as I'm concerned Winamp development ended in 2003 :P Still run Winamp v2.91, even though I'm on a Mac >_>

But it is sad from a legacy standpoint.

I've been using Foobar2k for a long time now, after switching from Winamp. I like it much more :D

I never used Winamp. My needs are met by the default Windows Media Player and VLC.

I still have a floppy with Winamp 2.64 (then current). So yeah I'm a long-time Winamp user.

I guess I'll stay with the last version then until... dunno.

I tried Winamp once, but it felt too heavy on my system's resources. :|

There used to be a time where every tiny system resource mattered.. kids these days will never know those times. Even their smartphones are exiting that phase now.

What kind of system do you have? I never thought Winamp was resource-heavy. Unless you tried the ill-fated version 3...

It were a while ago. I was on my 2.66GHz machine with 512MB Ram at that time. >_>

So that's quite a few years back now.

I used to run WinAmp on a 200MHz computer and had no issues :P

Sort of updating this thread.

Winamp has been bought by Radionomy, and they're planning to "update" it by making it look more modern (which I hope is not by making it look like a Win8 App).
Let's hope it goes well enough.

This also means their "not quite" hidden plugin folder is still up and going, although the root directory isn't browsable anymore.
