Yeah, I sometimes end up accidently offending people too.

It's annoying when that happens, and you have to go correct it, etc.

Sometimes I worry that it's hard for people to tell when I'm being serious and/or how serious I'm being at any given moment.

For example, on one board I posted something to the effect of "when you buy digital music, you are buying COMMUNISM". We had some laughs about it, but I really don't like purchasing digital music and would rather buy a hard copy.

But I'm kinda leaning off-topic.

Why? Digital is much easier, and it's portable.

Hard copies have there benefits. For example, you have a CD that you can put on display or something.

Not to mention, since most computers still have optical media drives, it's not too hard to achieve the portability of digital music. Also, I would much rather have the manual in physical form for many discs -- I don't know how much better it's gotten in recent years, but back around 2008 (I think, it was before I moved out to where I live now), the only artist I saw on iTunes that had digital versions of the inserts with their music was Metallica. Depending on the artist, those inserts can have some pretty neat art and such, so they're fun to look at. I've had various quantities of minimal success digging many of those up on Google Image Search. There's also some pretty interesting special items out there, like this album that came in a pseudo-LP sleeve.

Digital is also sometimes cheaper, you know.

But, we all have our opinions. ;)

Ultimately, that all depends where you go. I got the above item at a used shop for $10 US. Which, if I recall correctly, is what most things cost on iTunes.

Actually, I looked it up, and the album is $9 on iTunes. So, not a huge gap. And also, keep in mind, you are paying extra to have the physical object and not have to deal with DRM. Again, it will vary vastly depending on a. what you are buying and b. where you are buying from. Back when I lived in Chicago, there was a shop called Rolling Stone Records that regularly had a decent assortment of CDs for about $6.

Hard copies will survive a major drive failure. I've seen people download directly to their devices.. and them fail. To lose their only copies of so many tracks..

More hilarious when paired with limited numbers of downloads.

Purchased digital music can generally be re-downloaded to a different machine.

Then again, with Apple/iTunes, I was limited in the number of machines I could verify my account on, so I lost access to things like my only legit copy of Nick Cave's Dig, Lazarus, Dig and other things you're not likely to find in an actual store (I've had some minor, rare trouble getting things from Amazon). This was caused by most of those machines a. succumbing to hard drive failures and b. being the same machine, so I couldn't go back and take those permissions away from those machines to allow myself to verify it on a different machine (i.e. the same machine with a new hard drive).

I usually browse places like thrift shops and a local used game/music store for CDs, and have amassed a fairly decent size collection that way (plus, CDs/tapes can be restored into a computer in case of a hard drive failure or similar as was stated) ;)

Google's play store gives you two downloads of a music track. However, you can stream it an unlimited number of times. So if you have a way to intercept the stream, then you can download it again.

You can also do that with vinyl with the right equipment. Of course, vinyl is a bit more susceptible to dust, and for many albums, far more expensive and difficult to find. The nearest FYE to my house has had an LP version of Frank Zappa's Uncle Meat for a while, at about $50 (for a new copy of one of the newer pressings). You can get a CD copy on Amazon for less than half that. Most computers still have optical media drives and need no more extra equipment to rip a CD compared to an LP or even a cassette.

Me, I just rip songs from YouTube. They're free that way and don't have any DRM crap on them.

I don't have any issue with the quality. Must be my dulled senses.

Not always. It really just depends on the video's quality. There are YouTube videos with very good quality that you can find.
