I'm currently working on my first ROM hack ever: Castlevania 1 (NES). I figure, why not? I love the old Castlevania games and want to see what I could do with them.

What I want to do: Change up the looks of the maps/characters, make it a little more challenging (as in, possibly more enemies or different enemies on certain levels) and maybe even tweak with the music a little bit.

And now for the problems I'm running into:

Enemies:
- New enemies that I'm putting in to replace the old enemies (ex., replacing the zombies in the entrance of the castle with the eagles that drop hunchbacks) of a certain stage are glitching. The enemies are either bugged out or invisible. I have no idea why this is happening or how to make it stop.

Graphics:
- I have a sprite sheet with the old CV1 sprites that I revamped. I'm wanting to use those in the game, but I'm not sure if there's a way that I could somehow put those in. If there is a way to put them in, how do I do it?

As far as tools that I'm using, I have:

- Stake (A CV1 stage editor) and
- mtPaint

I'm completely new to this stuff, so any pointers or tips you all can share is most welcome.

Well, YY-Chr should be fairly useful for modifying the sprites. In some cases, you'll be able to copy bitmap data to the clipboard and paste it in unlike some other similar tools I used in the past.

The world could always use more heroes!
