Hmm do most LCDs use the same panels internally? Seems like specs are often the same on various models ;) (looking for a 30" 2560x1600 to replace my 9 year old 1920x1200, heh)

I wouldn't be surprised if there were just one or two factories in Taiwan or China* that made all the panels for most monitors regardless of brand; just how things go these days.

I'd expect similar. Just add a factory in Japan for the high-end displays.

Heh, I just bought a Dell U3011, should be arriving in a few days :D Mainly sought that one because it has a whole bunch of ports (including component video and two HDMIs :P)

I'm doing that thing now where I get annoyed that the US never adopted SCART or any other common 15kHz RGB standard

I'm trying to drown out whatever might be in my mind by listening to loud, bass-heavy music. I just woke up from some nightmares and would rather not think about them.

Ugh stupid adapters and cables... thankfully I have an actual Displayport cable coming so I'm not stuck with 2048x1536 for much longer 😘

It sounds like the US have some sort of disliking for the RGB standard then, eh? At least us PAL users get a fairly bearable composite/RF signal, trust me, I tried playing NTSC PS2 mode over conposite and it was blurrier with my glasses on, than a PAL game without my glasses on...

Also, on the topic of speakers, Sonos are really good Wi-Fi based ones...

Nah not talking about NTSC or PAL, talking about Displayport to DVI and HDMI adapters 😘 Trying to get 4K but neither adapter worked so I ordered a proper Displayport cable

I know, I was just making an irrelevant example and replying to Nicolyn's post 😘
And honestly, what's the appeal of 4K? 😝

Did you know Windows 10 still supports serial mice, serial and parallel ports, SCSI and ISA slots? :D Probably more legacy/obsolete stuff, too

Nice! Windows generally has a good track record of being backwards compatible with things, especially in the NT 6.x line (Vista-10), although between transitional phases like 9x > NT for the home, and NT 5 to NT 6, it has been pretty poor from third party developers of drivers and such (OEMs)...

Though that's nice I don't like nearly anything about Windows 10. They're trying to make it an ecosystem much like iOS and Android on the desktop and laptop market, failing terribly in the process (e.g. Microsoft Edge: IE11 was actually decent).

I can say that, at the very least, debugging JavaScript on IE11 is not as easy. A few features are unsupported, but most importantly, console.log and specially debugger; don't always return as much information as you'd expect them to.

I'll admit, it was better than I thought, and I have to appreciate how lightweight it is, but it's still not to the same level as Firefox Dev or Chromium. The favorites and the history bar are still clunky because it still tries to integrate itself onto Windows, in an era where that's not really needed anymore.

Though I don't really know if Edge is really any better. I'm waiting until I can buy an SSD to install Windows 10.

Yeah, IE11 works nicely on my 2009 netbook with an Atom N270. I find it runs better than Chrome doing the same thing...

Edge is terrible, ads and crashes everywhere last I used it. Plus it took really long for extension support. Though I don't mind the rendering, most sites generally worked fine aside from frequent UI crashing which is probably a problem of W10/UWP more than anything.

I won't use Edge even when I used Windows 10 as my main OS just because I think Microsoft has been really unethical with how aggressively they've been promoting it, even when you search for other browsers.

Google's been just as bad with Chrome, of course. (Mozilla seems to be in the "we're not evil, but we're not competent either" bucket)
