Urgh. Your girlfriend went way out of line.

I only have a cell phone because it's cheaper than having a landline (I have a prepaid provider that works out to around $8 a month) and for the extremely rare instances when I feel a need to carry it with me (like when Anya came, so we could call each other if we got lost in the airport trying to find each other). Other than that it stays plugged in at home. I don't feel the need to be reachable literally 24/7/365 like I'm a doctor on call.

I'm not a huge fan of phones, really. I don't like how they can take away literally 100% of a person's attention at completely arbitrary times. Especially if I'm there trying to communicate with said person, or if they're doing something that requires a lot of attention such as driving. And I don't really want to hear half of your really loud pointless conversation when I'm trying to focus on something else.
