The one we use now (Java-based), only works on half of the computers I tried it on, and gives several scary warnings.

As I suggested to Emuz earlier, we could use LightIRC. Even though it's Flash-based, it's very lightweight, configurable, and convenient to work with.

We do need a Flash Policy daemon on the server.

I agree! Anything to replace the current Java IRC client is fine.

I have tried Mibbit on NSMBHD.
Yes it sucks because it´s very basic; but it´s enough for a new user to get to know us.
It also has no scary warnings or strange server requirements.

Sorry for the years old bump, but, uh, currently, the built-in IRC plugin doesn't even work for me.

I suggest we use KiwiIRC. Or just get rid of it entirely.

qwebirc is better tbh if we're going self hosted.

I recommend doing something like this maybe. If we won't have a web IRC client on the page.

There's always Kiwi IRC if we want to keep the embedded IRC client thing.
It might mean putting a frame in, but a non-flash, non-java solution. :)

Yeah. Though the new web client sucks, although the embeddable one is fine ^^

With the bridge the way it is on Discord, for now that'll be the official stop gap measure. I don't want to really do anything with the clients until the network itself gets sorted out. (No time frame on that as it's out of my direct control currently.)

You are free to download a stand alone client, or use the Discord link to connect to the Discord. We will have a perm solution after the network issues have been resolved.

Cool. If you're looking for a client that supports anything (Win XP+, MacOS and Linux) check out Pidgin. There's also libpurple plugin for discord if your into that.
