I guess in terms of general RPG mechanics I've always thought Earthbound was really cool and unique for its HP rolldown mechanic. As far as magic systems as a whole though... I guess the Shin Megami Tensei games have always been great in that regard. They give a lot of freedom to basically completely change everything about your team with its mechanics with things like the fusion system, or stuff like the Magatama system in Nocturne. I just like how adaptive you can be at any given time, and completely change what elements you attack with, what elements you are weak to/resistant to, and basically everything about your party and strategy at a moment's notice. It also feels like how I adapt is very important in those games. Whereas in some other RPGs I just hit, heal, hit, heal, bam the enemy's dead. In those games I constantly feel like I am trying to aim for a specific elemental weakness and exploit it to the best of my ability while covering my own as best I can. Also, debuffs and buffs are actually important and useful, and in some fights absolutely critical. I'm not sure if that's entirely answered the question, as I'm not the most knowledgeable guy on fantasy by any means, but this is the closest thing to an answer I can really come up with. ____________________ Giant Paratroopa Affected by 'Wooster Syndrome' ++++!!
