When someone doubleposts (that is, replies in a thread where they have the last reply and replied since less than 24 hours or whatever the delay is), I say the board should append the new post to the latest one rather than creating a new post. The resulting post would be like an edit of the previous post.
This could be nice for threads like this one, where the poster keeps posting updates. While we're at it, the doublepost restriction for normal users could be loosened or removed. And editing the latest post of a thread (including automerged doubleposting) could mark the thread as unread. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Yes, but then you have impatient people or people who wind up double-clicking the post link accidentally or stuff like that. And then you have posts with doubled content cluttering up your database.
I say alert the user that they tried to double post and direct them to an editpost page with the attempted new post already appended to the editbox. |

I have seen several full mods do double posts within 24 hours.
They are probably not even aware of this. I would say, drop this limit, since some don't seem to know or care. ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

I doubleposted from my phone due to a temporary glitch in connection quality. That meant I had the exact same shit posted twice. Then you'd get what GM mentioned earlier, and it wasn't even a doubleclick.

♥90 ✿4705 ★50 It seems like it should be possible to check whether the double posts are identical or not when appending? |

Or, there could be a sanity check, say, to reject all double posts within one minute. |

Posted by LilianaThere is, but just for us normals. I ran into it a few times already. The rules should be the same for this, for both normals and higher ranked because ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Posted by Kiyoshi Fun fact: Jul actually has no doublepost protection at all In the worst cases, if you end up accidentally doubleposting due to a connection glitch, you can always edit your post to fix it... As for doubleclicks on the submit button, I figured that browsers would prevent it? If not, one way to prevent double-submits would be catching the form's onsubmit event, and making it return false if it has already been triggered. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Smart people only have Javascript disabled when they're wading through the murkier depths of the Internet. The bright and shiny areas are often enough just plain crippled without it. |

Which is why the mobile theme I made for ABΔ earlier only uses it for the logout function. |

I wish to bring this up again. With some of my revamps in the permission system, a lot more things will be possible. I plan to perhaps change the double posting permission a bit to where you can control it on a thread/forum basis as well as how loose or tight you want to make it.
For example, typically normal users have 24 hours before they can post again (currently a hardcoded amount which I plan to change a bit). With the owner giving that user staff powers who has the rights or the rights granted themselves, the user is totally free to double post (I think it currently can be forum based but I am sure not thread. Correct me if I am wrong, Emuz). With my possible added flexibility, you can change the default to make it more than 24 hours (if you really must) or make it less or nonexistent. This can be on a basis set. I just thought I would bring this up since quite a few things are being revamped and made even more flexible. Now then, what I also want discussed is what do you honestly think should be the default limit? Should it stay 24 hours or perhaps 12 hours? 24 is fine with me but I don't think it should be any less than 12 on a default basis. Again, with the system, you can change it for a particular forum that may need you posting often. Of course, for Kafuka, it is really Emuz's call. But I would like to see what typical defaults should be. |
