hm.. well, back in late 2016 i had my main hard drive in my computer cease functioning. it'd been slowly going and my computer had been taking weirdly absurdly long times to boot until it just stopped completely, and i tested a bunch of stuff including reinstalling windows several times in two days in the hopes that it might work again. eventually i stopped even being able to read anything on the hard drive no matter what, and that terrified me because i didn't keep backups at the time. (i do now. regularly.) i downloaded puppy linux and used that for a while. i'm super lucky in that i managed to grab almost everything off of my dead hard drive without any issues. it was slow, but it worked. it also taught me to make regular backups.
the more catastrophic failure was the sudden death of one of my hard drives in 2007 -- it just completely stopped working suddenly one day and it makes bizarre mechanical noises and fails to be recognized whenever i boot it. it has a bunch of old music and weird shit on it, and i'd love to take a look at it sometime. i've tried getting it working several times over the years using different methods, and nothing has worked. i suspect the platter is dislodged, but i'm not brave enough to try to fix that. i'm also not sure how that'd happen when absolutely nothing physically damaging occurred when i used it. unless the parts were cheap and shitty. to be fair, it was a maxtor drive... |

monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone monkeybone
monkeybone, along with dana carvey's master of disguise, is a CIA psyops experiment designed to test the outer limits of the capacity of bad taste and its effects on the human psyche. easily the most tragic and terrible thing to happen in the year 2001 |

i'll grant that
master of disguise is like occasionally unintentionally funny in a weird cringey way and it's very memeable. monkeybone is satan's spawn of the deep crawled unto the earth the distressing thing about monkeybone is that i actually love some of henry selick's other works. i think what makes his other movies special is the way they combine that eerieness with a deeper spirit – nightmare before christmas's sense of childlike wonder and humor, coraline's preteen familial-angst tug-of-war, james & the giant peach's spirit of adventure. but all of monkeybone's strangeness feels super forced compared to those movies. it feels, dare i say, lolrandom. roger ebert wrote about it and normally i'm not the type to appeal to a big famous movie critic's perspective but he's absolutely right also very important thing about master of disguise is that it gave us the perfect caricature of u.s. senator mitch mcconnell |

Posted by DarkWitchClaireprobably I Am Furious (Yellow) Posted by Danikai dunno if you're gonna get a lot of money out of the coronavirus Posted by Robbie Ragesorry to reference the simpsons again, but phil hartman... that guy was a treasure. i'm not really huge on a lot of "typical" 90s media. i don't like friends, i'm not that into the x-files or most of the typical big 90s shows. i don't like most of the big name 90s actors. i don't like matthew mcconaughey much, i don't really like david duchovny, and i don't care at all about brendan fraser or leonardo dicaprio. my favorite uma thurman film is kill bill, not pulp fiction. i can't really name any big 90s movies i really hugely adore. i guess fargo. frances mcdormand is great as maggie gunderson. or the big lebowski, which along with monsters inc. convinced me john goodman is actually really good can we count kyle maclachlan too? i do love me some twin peaks Posted by DarkWitchClaireyes!!!!!! |
