Posted by Danikai MULLED over it for a bit, but i kinda disagree with this ruling. the original post states that names aren't allowed, not specifically proper nouns: Posted by Epele specifically, i always interpreted "names" as being given names or surnames, or names of corporations or other similar things, and the spirit of the rule is that to disallow arbitrary combinations of letters leading to easy victories. but "mars" as a name for a planet and roman god has a foundation in literature stretching back over centuries, it's in dictionaries, and it also has an adjectival form in pigmentation ("mars red" and such). hardly arbitrary, at least not any more arbitrary than any other word in the dictionary. there's also another adjectival form and common noun form derived from "mars", namely martian, which is not a proper noun. i feel like we wouldn't disallow (if, hypothetically, we ever got to this point lol) "martian" or "terrestrial", even though those are derived from names for planets, so why is the name of the planet itself an exception? anyway i'm just nitpicking at this point, it's not like it matters, we're already deep in a new game, but yeah... p.s. this post was a play too |
