Posted by Kiyoshi Yes, the N64 has a great potential, but few programmers actually utilized its power due to the numerous limitations (mostly due to the awfully low memory) which made it hard to make good use of the extra features. The N64 did support high-resolution (640x480) mode which looks pretty great, but I don't know very many games which actually make use of it. Most just settle with 320x240 mode which isn't really much. |

Posted by LilianaIt was more like N32, the bus was 32-bit, and usage of the few 64-bit instructions left was RARE (pun intended).Posted by Kiyoshi 640x480, it really did not have the power or video memory to do this. Of course there were some nice tries, but back in the days I was always thinking how the machine would have done 2D graphics. The N64 had a more powerful GPU than the PS1 on some points, however, Nintendo really kept pushing all developers to jump on the 3D bandwagon. The N64 could probably have done some kick-ass 2D graphics, but sadly we never got to see it ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

♥704 ✿4707 ★51 Posted by Kiyoshi Even the Wii is a 32-bit system, though- 64-bit precision really isn't all that useful in most gaming cases. Really the big flaw of the N64 was its limited memory, I agree- if they had more space for textures, then you really could have seen some nice graphics. |

Posted by Kiyoshi Well there were a few 2D games, like Mischief Makers... but they're pretty rare. |

Oh man, Mischief Makers. I loved that game. Too bad I only ever played it at my friend's house, and only a few times. I wish I could either find it to play on my N64 or a ROM/emulator combo that actually works. |

@Trelior: I have one of those "mythical" working ROM/emulator combos.
E: I use Project64 1.5 and have Mischief Makers (U) [!].z64 and it works flawlessly. |

N64 controls are always a problem, 'cause of that analog stick. Modern controllers can do that fine, but you gotta have one, else you're screwed... |

For me, it isn't the analog control, it's the lack of buttons for C. I know I can use the right analog stick, but using a stick for buttons lacks a lot of finesse. |

I personally can't play on a keyboard. I've gone through a few gamepads in my life. Durning the first part of '00s I used a N64 controller. Took some getting used to for SNES games but it worked well. I that switched to a NGC controller. That one was... A learning curve but worked really well.
After that I bounced around trying PC USB controllers needless to say I didn't find any I liked. I had started working and going to school full time and that killed my gaming time. Now I switch off between a dualshock3 and a full Wiimote set. All work well, but the PS3 controller is the best I've found. (not that play games much.. [and something I've always done unusually]) The Dynamic Profile Administrator™"Never Knows Best" Note: if you can see this my layout broke. ALL THE CREDITS WILL BE REVEALED!! I like the newer Logitech gamepads that have an XD switch (XNA+XBOX/DirectInput). ____________________ I don't give a flying feather |

Gamepad wise, I use a wired x360 controller.
A lot cheaper than those pads.. Especially when the UK prices are higher than the US prices when you account for currency conversion rates.. The world could always use more heroes! |
