I REALLY want to but there are no groups here at all. I also dunno where to start, what to do, any of that. I have friends who play, but the don't live here so they can't help get me started in the world of D&D.

I was thinking of studying up and running a game through text on the Kitchen Table, cause I'm not much for the erratic form of RP they have in there anymore. I would love to try out some D&D though, and it MIGHT work on a forum...? Hell I dunno.

Eww D&D, worse systems you have to search for! (I only know a few. (such as the Swedish game EON)) I do play other pen and paper though, such as: Savage worlds, Magic burst, etc.

Also, if you decide to run a campaign online I suggest doing so over IRC or Skype over a forum any time of the day.

I do love playing things like this though. I'm personally running a Savage world session in the MLP: FiM setting at the moment myself over IRC on saturdays.

I have played D&D but it was long ago. We only got to level 3 with our characters since we couldn't play that often. My wizard kicked ass, though. Mage Armor + Mirror Image ftw.

I was part of a 3.5 campaign back in 2007.

It started out as just four of us meeting every Tuesday and Thursday between school and play practice. We then added another guy when it came time to start the musical, which was fine for a few weeks... Then our DM decided to add about SIX MORE PEOPLE to join, which wrecked the whole damn thing, because it became impossible for everyone to get together.

The story was just starting to get good, too. ._.

3-5 players and a GM is the best size for a roleplaying group when playing a game such as D&D, no wonder things crashed down with 9 players. <_<

I've still got some of my books and such from 1st Edition (back in the 80s) somewhere in the garage. Dice are all in a tiny felt bag in my desk. Don't think I have any character sheets anymore, though. =(

I have a 4GB flash drive full of 3.5 edition books, and I think it has them all.

I only ever played 3.5, but I'd like to look into the older generations. Fuck 4th edition, they dumbed it down and ruined so much of it... Removing law and chaos as alignments was the worst thing ever... Now you can essentially have a quirky Paladin and lawful stupid Bard, which is retarded if you ask me...

Well you could still play 4th edition and make house rule changes. In fact, for most games, you should do house rules to match the player group.

Also, 5th edition is in the work, I wonder where that one will go. Also, not really sure I can comment on how good/bad 4th edition is; I never got the chance to play it. I read some of the rules, and some things are dumb as hell, but there are things like that in all systems. (Hello initiative and damage in savage worlds!) I can say for sure that I'm not a big fan of pathfinder, even if I did only get to play it very little.

Me and some friends are gonna start a Pathfinder campaign soonish. It's gonna be my first time playing an RPG of any kind, and I hear it's pretty much DnD 3.75.

Pathfinder is more balanced but it's nothing in like 4th edition at all.

IIRC, the major changes are making melee classes as good as spell caster.
