It seems that occasionally threads are not properly marked as read when you visit them. The index page will show a "NEW!" next to the forum but no number of new posts, and no matter how often you read the thread, it will always stay new.

Luckily, Mark Forum Read fixes it. But it is still annoying. I have no idea what triggers it.

Unfortunately, nor does anybody else right now. :/

It's a bit of an old bug, but no clear reason for it doing it.

Not just forum announcements. There's a bug which applies to either threads or forums. Not quite sure where it lies.

Although, I might have a vague idea of a possibility.

Have you tried rubberduck debugging yet?

Indeed.. but then again, that's similar to my method of locating something. >_>

Do it the simple way. Do the equivalent of a debug printline output by writing an HTML comment to the page whenever a new tag is being displayed. Then when the phenomenon exists again, the user can send in the contents of that comment.

E: The phenomenon is occurring right now for the Kitchen Table for me.

I can confirm the Kitchen Table having the new tag on it without an unread thread. If you wanted to try GM's suggestion, I can leave the flag up as long as necessary. Though, in this case, I'm pretty sure it has to deal with the announcment I posted.

Likely. That can't be the case for the Craziness Domain since that has no forum announcements.

I read both announcements in the Kitchen Table, and the flag remained until I marked the forum read.

In my haste to post a new thread to highlight this issue, I neglected to recognize that it was already mentioned here.

I've currently got a thread exhibiting this exact behavior...

''What movies have you seen lately'' -thread, from Nick at the Beta Max Center is not accepting new reply's. Well, it was unwilling to add my reply, that is.. Not sure If this is already told or discussed. I searched the board for something like this for a short while, but couldn't really find the bug I am talking about.. Perhaps something went wrong when logging in? When I logged in today the screen turned white with some stuff of the board and froze. I then logged in again.
Not unimportant either: typing reply was going ok, but when posting the reply, I got the message: ''Thread doesn't excist.''

You should have posted that elsewhere, this thread is about bugs with forums'/threads' NEW markers.

Well, the help forum is doing this since I posted the recent glitch thread... I don't dare mark the forum read, although it's going to bug the shit out of me.

About the issue with Mark Forum Read... It appears to be broken, because I hit Mark Read on Betamax, and it did nothing to the flags.

Looks like you have more bugs to fix, Gygy.

I also had that one earlier. Yet, I still have no idea what causes it or how to fix it as a result. :x

Need a fresh set of eyes?

I've got minimal skill with PHP, so I might not be the best idea (although I can usually figure out code by looking at it for long enough), but it sounds like we need a fresh set of eyes.
