I think it's high time we did something like this?

I thought I saw something about it before, but I can't find it (Didn't look TOO hard but shut up) and it doesn't seem like it shot off so let's do it again?

I'm looking for people who enjoy DF (even if you're not good at it. That makes it more Fun) and would wiling to play a Legacy game. Basically, we play Dwarf Fortress in the span of a game year or two, record what happens (Usually in, like, diary format of one of the dwarves), and post it here. Then you pass the game files along to the next person on the list.

If we're gonna do this we gotta do it right and Fun. I'm thinking.... evil biome? Maybe glacier, maybe something else. All suggestions welcome, I'll be looking for a good place to start on.

Sign up here, and I'll put you in the list of people to play! :D

*THE LIST*

2) Grey Maria
3) Ailure
4) Rydia
5) PERSON NEEDED

I had fun at @Sukasa's stream, and would like to be part of this.

I have no idea had how to play Dwarf Fortress, but who cares!

My only issue is... I have no time. :(

You don't have to stream or do anything live, it's just a "Whenever you got time, play for one Dorf Fort year" thing. It doesn't have to go at the speed of light, one year per hour thing. It could also just be a few updates at a time, you don't need the FULL year update at once. Hell, monthly updates are perfectly fine! And months go by ridiculously fast.

So unless you really got absolutely no time to play, ya do.

I really don't have time to play... I'm being buried by my insatiable urge to continually add to my laundry list of games, and I'm falling behind on a lot of stuff.

That, and my schedule isn't very conducive to gaming, either. D:

Sign this motherfucker up for second year. I've been needing an excuse to test how that damn game runs on this laptop.

E: Try not to embark with the wagon directly on top of a frozen river. <_<

I had to race against time to get my crap off of that river, and I failed miserably.

Sure sign me up. I probably stream it so I can accidentally show horrible furry porn in the background show exactly how the turn went. Won't be any audio commentary sadly.

I don't really care where, although Evil Glacier might make it too "interesting". Not that I mind though. ;)

Alrighty, we'll have some Fun then! Evil glacier it is!

Ooh, and terrifying too. I'll ask if this is fine: Our civilization is The Most Machine, the elevation is high but there's absolutely no cliffs nearby (it's all at 0, but sometimes it's not exactly accurate), it's all glacier, and it's TERRIFYING. OH BOY I CANNOT WAIT.

Do any of you guys have weak computers? Is the area too big for you guys?

Journal of Murob Helmedvises

1st Granite, 201, Early Spring

If I ever see those damned noblemen again, I'm going to have their head on a pike. Why in the name of Armok would you ever want to send able bodied Dwarves out here? And with so little supplies?

I swear I heard them laugh when I left the mountain home. They don't expect us to survive. Neither do most of us, but I'm determined to make some impact here. I'm not going to be some sick game to those noblemen. I'm going to live, but it's not going to be easy.

We are only seven Dwarves, ready to strike out in this horrible frozen wasteland. Lesh has taken to calling herself the Militia Commander already, and demands that everyone listen to her, but they seem focused on naming me Expedition Leader. I'm not sure if I'm honored or simply horrified that I have these people's lives in my hands.

We've finally reached out destination, this land the nobles called "Honorbands". I assume it's some kind of joke. I see nothing but ice for as far as the eye can see... My men are freezing. I'm going to order we stop the wagon here and dig. We need to get out of the frozen air soon, I feel uneasy up on the surface.

10th of Granite, 201, Early Spring

Something is falling from the sky. It's bleaching the landscape in a disgusting yellow.

It's some kind of stinking mucus. It slams into us and our animals relentlessly, causing bruises and cuts on all of us. I've ordered the wagon to be taken apart, and for everyone to take to the stairway to get out of the mucus rain. We cannot afford taking injuries.

20th of Granite, 201, Early Spring

Urt and I just finished of mining out the stockpiles. They will need some work, but for now, I don't want that mucus seeping into my ale.

Everyone managed to get underground safely, except Timd. He decided it was a better idea to drink while the mucus slammed into him unrelentlessly. Now he's whining to me about how he hurts and how we need a hospital.

I told him to shut up. He'd better not whine to me about this all month. If he develops some disease from that mucus, it will not be my fault.

22nd of Granite, 201, Early Spring

Lesh announced that a Blizzard Man was on the horizon. He's far from our hole in the ground and seems to be running around in circles.

I told her to ready her axe, we'll have to be very careful if it decided to come for us. She agreed to be stationed outside the hole.

((I'mma update one month at a time, editing to update. Do you all like this RP style? If you don't want it I can just go to normal "I did this to our fort" style updates.))

I think freeform is best, that it's up to the author how to sum their year up.

As long it's verbose and actually covers the events.

10th of Slate, 201, Mid-Spring

The month has been going smoothly so far. We just discovered a cave deep under the glacier, and thank Armok is has fresh water! I've ordered a well and farm built nearby it.

8th of Felsite, 201, Late Spring

Lesh is starting to worry me. She stayed in that freakish weather, and snow, and ignored the pain just to defend the fortress. That in itself is commendable, but she stayed there despite the fact that she was about to die of thirst and hunger. I ordered her back in to at least eat, and she yelled at me! She's very grumpy these days, and she's the one with the axe. I have an axe too, but I have not been trained like she has. I do not feel safe.

30th of Felsite, 201, Late Spring

It's almost Summer, not that I can tell in this frozen wasteland. Not much to report: Lesh spoted a group of wolves on the horizon. The landscape is still bleached a putrid yellow. I'd prefer the light blue of ice, honestly, it's the color of microline. At least there's plenty of that down below.

The well is almost completed. I made Tor a temporary architect and asked him to build the well since he seemed bored with little to do. It doesn't look like we're going to have any metalworking set up for a while. The farms are almost completed, too. In all, it has been a very productive season. Perhaps we can survive here after all.

10th Hematite, 201, Early Summer

The bedrooms have been completed! Zeek asked me what kind of design I was going for. I told him "Random holes in the wall", cause really, that's what they are. They aren't anything special, and I'm too busy these days to create some doors, but hopefully soon they will be more than what they are.

16th Malachite, 201, Mid-Summer

Migrants... Migrants showed up. I honestly have no idea why or how. Properly dressed and groomed young dwarves, ready to etch out a life in our growing empire's newest outpost! The look on their faces when they saw Lesh, covered in goo, was quite priceless. I guess they are out of the norm though, because they were the only two that came. A wife and a husband, Shad and Trint, a butcher and a tanner respectively. Well, out horses have starved as there is no grass for them to feed on, so I do not know how useful they will be. Growing animals here in the glaciers would be slightly difficult. Trint has some skills in fighting, however weak they are, so I will have him enlisted into the military. Shad, on the other hand, will have to be put into more useful things than butchering. Besides, Timd is already our butcher.

The farms are now being created. Due to a bit of a problem with water flooding, we have more farms than we originally thought we would, but that's fine.

5th Galena, 201, Late Summer

I remember when I used to live back in the mountain home. Summers were enjoyable. They did not involve snow storms. Oh well, at least the mucus let up.

A small family of Olmmen have taken root in the caverns below us. I can see them from the top of the well. They do not seem friendly, but they have no way to reach us, so I am not worried.

I have ordered the mining of a small room below the workshops: This will be our dining room. I am tired of eating on the cold floors. I have also ordered construction of similar rooms on other levels: a barracks, a stockpile for our goods, and a room to hold our stone. I plan construction on a defensive wall soon, we will need it in the years to come.

18th Galena, 201, Late Summer

Poor, poor Trint. The Blizzardman finally attacked. Trint and Lesh managed to defeat the horrible monster, with Lesh taking no damage, but it looks like Trint will never be able to fight again, let alone do anything. He has bruises and scraped all over his body, those are not a problem, but he has lost the ability to see out of either eye. I do not know how he lost sight without losing his eyes, but I have relieved him from duty, and made him a craftsdwarf. He can help us by making stone crafts for the caravans that will hopefully remember we exist. I also promised him I would carve out a hospital as soon as possible. I also asked for our dogs to be trained in warfare, as Lesh will now need the help.

15th Limestone, 201, Early Autumn

Construction on a wall has been started. We need a fortification as soon as possible, so we can both stay safe from the mucus and from the horrors that lurk beyond the hole. I ordered it made out of the ice that we're mining from our mining endevors; it looks quite nice.

Also, due to the grace of whatever may be watching over us, Trint's sight has come back! Perhaps in the heat of the battle, the beast threw mucus in his eyes. Nonetheless, I have enlisted him back into the militia, but asked him to continue his stone crafting job until we needed him. We're running low on barrels, and rock pots are going to be needed unless we find a good source of wood below.

18th Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn

There appears to be a bit of a problem in constructing the fortification. My fellow Dwarves seem to become frightened the higher they are in the air, understandably, and as the mucus pelts them they flee and head off to "rest". Rest what, I do not know, I see no wounds, but they refuse to work on that tile of ice again until I reassure them the big bad mucus is gone. It's embarrasing.

Our mining operations are pretty much done, now. We need a bit more ice, so I'm ordering more ice excavation, but other than that we are indeed done. I'm ordered the barracks to be set up, with Lesh training there probably daily. She is very dedicated to keeping us alive.

22th Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn

Immigrants appear on the horizon! I was setting ice into place on our fortification, when I saw them running around screaming while a wolf ran in random directions near them. Poor wolf. It seems blind, probably from over exposure to the mucus. I ordered Lesh to put it out of its misery. We can't have it somehow harming anyone.

23rd Sandstone, 201, Mid-Autumn

Seven new immigrants. Maybe they send a new expedition party, expecting us to have died, for all I know. Nonetheless, we have seven new members: Trame the miner, Peir the Craftsdwarf, Sorc the Glassmaker, Skirn the Shearer, Put the Farmer, Kou the Spinner, and Naraz the Thresher. Most of them appear married to each other.

Out of all of them the only one I was excited to meet was Trame. She seems like a fine women, and is a miner at that! We don't need shearers or threshers in the frozen wastes, but a miner we can use! Forgive me for being calculating, but I am merely looking after our safety. I also enlisted Put into the militia since he seemed to have the most useless job of them all. He objected, but he quieted rather quickly when Lesh went to drag him off to the barracks. Sixteen people now I have to take care of. Armok help us.

17th Timber, 201, Late Autumn

A caravan! They appeared from the south west, a few armored guards and freshly groomed merchants. They waded through the mucus with disgusted faces, which were equally disgusted when they saw we were covered in the stuff. Honestly, I'm just glad the stuff doesn't leave piled into the fortress.

I named myself broker of the fortress, abruptly but only a few objected, and am going to go trade with them now.

26th Timber, 201, Late Autumn

Nothing! Absolutely nothing for trade! I may as well have traded with an Elf!

A few barrels of booze and some fish. True, food is good, but no wood? No metals? We had plenty of stupid earings to trade to them, and they brought nothing. Well I am certainly going to tell the ambassador what we need this time. He's been following me around and staring at me, it's really creeping me out.

But first I will have a drink, this has worked me up.

13th Moonstone, 201, Early Winter

It took a while but I finally scheduled that meeting with the ambassador. Along with some wood and metal, I asked for some armors and weaponry. By next Fall we should have enough goods to trade with the, if all goes well. I hope it will.

The ambassador is leaving and the traders will soon follow him. It's now winter, and the fortress is growing ever colder. There is a horrible chill in the air everywhere I go.

19th Opal, 201, Mid-Winter

Work on the tower has been the most important work this Winter, though it is very dangerous and unforgiving work. I have, guiltily, ordered myself and the other miners back down below so that we can mine out Tor's forge. It's about time Tor gets to work, and we have plenty of coal laying around for him to do so.

15th Obsidian, 201, Late Winter

An ice wolf ran across the drawbridge and attacked out masondwarves today. Thankfully our brave militia was nearby; they managed to fend them off effectively, and no injuries were reported. I'm still worried though: if things like this keep happening, injuries WILL occur. And we have no doctor. I don't want to appoint someone doctor without experience, though, I've heard horror stories. Hopefully one will appear on the horizion soon.

17th Obsidian, 201, Late Winter

More ice wolves! I must admit, of all the things to attack, I'm glad it's an ice wolf and not some... undulating worm or something. That would be horrible. No, mundane wolves I can live with.

No damages again, but I asked the militia to go take out the rest of the ice wolf pack to the north west. They could do with the training practice, anyway.

21 Obsidian, 201, Late Winter

The Ice Wolves lay dead, and we lay victorious! Trint suffered minor injuries, but in all the militia remains untouchable. As a reward for fighting bravely, I am upgrading Put from wrestler to axedwarf. We are low on axes, but Zeek rarely uses her's for cutting wood so I am giving it to Put. We can make new ones soon anyway.

1st Granite, 202, Early Spring

Spring has arrived. The young fortress of Honorbands has survived the harsh winter with minimal injuries and no deaths. We are only 16 strong, but we are Dwarves! We shall persevere.

END OF JOURNAL

I'll upload the game and send it off to you, GM. G'luck. Play it how you'd like, but I already made one charcoal so I suggest starting up the bitumous coal smithing, and I'm trying to get some ropes so I can make traction benches and ropes for dogs to protect the bridge. The construction outside is going slowly due to weird injury bugs, but we'll live. You can Roleplay it out if you'd like, as Murob or as someone else I don't mind.
