What do you guys say to holding a tourney or two among us and such?

There's a battle simulator out there that's fairly accurate to the games, much moreso than Pokemon Battle Revolution, that has much better metagame options than the aforementioned PBR. It also allows for people who either don't have the games or don't go online with theirs for one reason or another to participate.

We can do any kind of tourney you can think of: Generation metagame, monotype, randoms... Anything.

Thoughts?

More slots will open for larger tourneys, provided enough interest is shown.

I've always preferred a more open style of battle, pretty much ignoring tier lists and other similar rubbish.

We don't have to follow tiers if we don't want to. I was just throwing it out there.

Having different tourney options always help. We can do all five generations for tournies, as well as subdivisions within.

My only ground rule is this: if we do a Gen I monotype tourney, Psychic is banned for broken.

^ This pretty much. I'd love to take part though! :V

Monotype?
Mind you, dual types where in green and red, just look at bulbasuar. :I

Also, playing with up to date mechanics would not make psychic as bad... I think. Seeing as we have such thing as magnemite that are part steel. :V

Anyhow, I would prefer running on actual game copies (Read: Black and White) but maybe that's just me? Sure you actually have to train pokemons then, but I find that to be kinda the point. :V

This would be amazing, I'd be down for a torny. I'd understand if there were restrictions. I've held Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments with a Yu-Gi-Oh simulator that went really really well so I would love to see a pokemon one.

Monotype?
Yes, Monotype.

Mind you, dual types where in green and red, just look at bulbasaur. :I

No shit.

Monotype just means that all six Pokemon on your team all have to be the same type. In cases of dual-type, the secondary types are ignored.

Example: My mono-Flying team is Aerodactyl, Gyarados, Zapdos, Dragonite, Honchkrow, and Togekiss. It works because despite being all different primary types, they're all Flying-type.

As for opting for the simulator, it's a level ground that everyone can join in on.
Posted by Trelior

It also allows for people who either don't have the games or don't go online with theirs for one reason or another to participate.

Not to mention that it's easier to monitor who wins or loses.

Maybe you should have clarified that before posting your large facepalm images and assumptions that everyone knows what you know? :/

Yes I do in fact KNOW all of these things. I was merely expressing my opinion of liking to use the actually games. But hey, I suppose it's okay to treat everyone with an opinion as a retard?

Maybe instead of making a moronic assumption, you could have asked.

That's fine. You can express your opinion, but don't do it in a way that comes across as "Your idea is stupid, you should do it my way." If you don't like it don't participate.

But hey, I suppose it's okay to treat everyone with an opinion as a retard?
That was uncalled for. Be expecting a PM.

@Trelior: Lunaria was only expressing an opinion. I saw nothing that I could see as anything to get upset about. If you are the one running the show, you can have whatever rules you like. @Lunaria was more of asking for clarification and offering another alternative.

I doubt I would have the time, but I love the idea.. now if I could find my Pokemon games.. (For the record, I like the faster 3v3 Pokemon Battles of stadium, but with limited set of items for backup. Keeps it short, but adds some surprises. [harder to manager too])

The way I was planning to run the tourneys was full six on six, evasion clause (evasion raising moves aren't allowed), and species clause (all Pokemon must be unique).

The evasion clause will be in effect, because that removes all skill from the match and makes it too heavily one-sided. The species clause is in effect because having more than one instance of the same 'mon is redundant, and makes for bland matches... Not to mention it's in the tournaments the games have coded into them.

I haven't been on the sim in a while, but I think doing 3 on 3 is very doable. Like I said above, I would prefer full team fights because there's no animation to slow the fight flow. It's a minor drawback, but it's able to be dealt with.

but with limited set of items for backup.
Use of live items is a new addition to Gen V with the Item Launcher. >_> You only had your 'mon's equipped item before that.

EDIT: >>19702 deleted because it wasn't on topic. If you have a problem, take it up with me in private. There's no need to derail a thread because of a disagreement.

3vs3 is my preferred battling style since you can't cover all types with just three. (That and battles don't take forever.)

There is also rotation battles. (Not sure if they are in the simulation thingy) Personally, I think they could work great for PvP, but I have never actually tried it.

I notice it's a preference for a lot of people, but we may be stuck with 6v6 until we look into different battle rule sets. Pokemon Online is always changing how things are done, and like I said, it's been a while. I don't know what all options we have.

Of course, you could just as easily use the team builder and make a three 'mon team. The problem with that, though, is that you don't have the option of mixing and matching.

... since you can't cover all types with just three. (That and battles don't take forever.)
You would be surprised. With the right Pokemon, you can cover most types in a single fighter, then use the others as supporters.

I think they're implemented by now, but I have to look into it.

The potential is there, but even in the real games, playing them is a bit wonky.

Mmmmm, it's a bit wonky, that I can agree too. But it also add quite a bit of strategy, at least from how I noticed it. While you can switch without delay every turn, so can your opponent. So you need to one up your opponent with what move you use.

Comparable, three VS three battles (what where they called again, multibattles?) everything is just a cluster fuck since everything moves on the same time. Speed seem to be the most important since then you can just nuke one pokemon on the other team before the others can move.

That, and... I feel the battling system and moves in pokemon was not made for this many on the field on the same time... ah but I am getting off on a tangent here...

That's true, but I still don't care much for them. That said, it won't eliminate them from the possibility of being played as a tourney, though.

Just like 2 on 2 was dubbed Double, the 3 on 3 are dubbed Triple, simply enough.

(what where they called again, multibattles?)

The term "multibattle" was actually given to multiple trainers per team in the games, like the Multi- Battle Tower, where you could team up with an NPC or a friend and have a split double battle.

That, and... I feel the battling system and moves in pokemon was not made for this many on the field on the same time... ah but I am getting off on a tangent here...

Not only are triples unholy clusters of fuck, it's also really convoluted how the spheres of influence work... If you remember, I vaguely tried explaining it in the main Pokemon thread a while back.

Isn't NetBattle an option? Or was that the one you were talking about in the first post?

And I don't want to do triple battles. Sounds like too much of a mess if you ask me.

I'm talking about using Pokemon Online.

It's a relatively accurate sim battler I use occasionally.

With Pokemon Online Pokemon Showdown may be another viable option http://pokemonshowdown.com/

Seems more advanced in the animation department

Clickable for lazies.

That's not half bad, but the team builder is bad... Really bad.

Most should download and install Pokemon Online for the team builder.
