Now that we know more about NSMB2, I figured I would see what everyone's opinions are.

I am looking forward to this game in the aspects of some of the game play seems to mirror SMB3 which is my favorite Super Mario game. The game however will center around the gold coins; more so than any other mario game. I will say some of the modes do look like fun, and I am always eager to try new gameplay mechanics in a mario game.

I've seen the usual backlash about it you would expect.. (".. more like New Super Wario Land" is the most memorable of the one-liners.) However based on what has been released so far, I am curious what everyone else thinks? I know there were people who didn't really like the NSMB series, do you think this would win you back?

With the repetition of "coin" so much in the European micro-site.. I agree with the "New Super Wario Land" comment.

I'll probably give it a shot though.

I don't know about this game... honestly, from Super Mario 3D Land I got a real vibe of "we're making another mario game... yep," (not sure how to say it otherwise) especially in the late game, and it makes me wonder how "phoned-in" this game is going to seem...

Also, it seems odd to keep lives when coin counting is the key (I mean, 1,000,000 coins is 10,000 lives... which is a lot :P ) Though lives are rarely a big gameplay element in Mario, and are honestly IMO a *bad* gameplay element (an arcade legacy), but if you're going to have the system...

Also don't like the idea of paid DLC in a Mario game. But bleh.

I'll probably still end up buying it...

I actually like this idea. What's the biggest complaint I hear about Mario (and some other Nintendo series)? "It's the same game every time". Mario and Zelda are the two big hitters of this claim. They claim that there are no changes and we're just playing the same thing with no changes. And yeah the games each have a few new gimmicks, but it's still the same game right?

This is also a gimmick but if they go more WITH it, and add MORE to the game and the game play, I think it can work out well. It just continues to piss me off that some people will NEVER be happy and will whine and complain about things like this anyway. "AAAAA THEY'RE RUINING MARIO AAAA"

To be honest though... I probably won't buy it anyway. I enjoy Mario but I have absolutely no income and I only save the little money I can scrounge up to buy the games that JUMP OUT at me. Or the ones that are on sale. *slinks back off to the Steam Summer Sale*

Well the thing I like is the fact it is the same game. Mario 3 based actually. :)

I think the coin mechanics look like a lot of fun. Hell I am a sucker for Mario (bros 3). :)

Back in MY day we didn't HAVE no DLC. It wasn't even called that! We had to buy these cards to get what we want. And we had to buy an extra Game Boy Advance and the card reader to go with it! Oh yeah, let's not forget the cables! And here you are bitching about a quick, cheap way to get more Mario content. I oughta smack you, ya whippersnapper!

Seriously though, I did just preorder this along with a 3DS XL. I don't have a 3DS at all, so I figured why the fuck not, the platform is starting to get some love. I really just got it for Paper Mario.

Yeah, but the thing about the e-reader is that it was so inconvenient no one actually bothered. :P

I still say that the fact this is titled "New Super Mario Bros 2" is poorly thought out.

The fact that it's the third release in the series (Yes, NSMBWii is NSMB2 in my eyes), it's on the 3DS, and borrows heavily from SMB3 all lend it to being called 3.

I'm also not a fan of the extreme emphasis on coins in this one... Something like that is far more akin to Wario, who will probably not get a cameo or even a mention... Just sayin'.

I don't have a 3DS, so I dunno if I'm ever going to get it.

This game is one of the 3DS's trademarks and could be the most well-known game for it. I didn't really get to play many Wario games, but something was trying to come to my mind when I thought of all the coin-collecting. The controls and physics are sure to be exactly the same as the recent titles, save for Raccoon Mario (which I'm sure could be fun). This game (as well as a few of the New Super Mario Bros. titles recently) have deviated to the large screens that scroll upwards to reveal vast areas of extras, as opposed to a small confined area. I say that they should do more with the entire level area (like the games people here say it mirrors). I'm not going to buy a 3DS mainly because it's money out of my pocket that could be put forth into different things. However, I'll be glad to play it on one of my friend's 3DS when I have the chance, if I'm even motivated to play that.

Actually, I loved the e-reader. Yes I have no idea where it or the cards that go with it are right now, but I LOVE IT ALL THE SAME. Like a puppy with one leg.

I agree, the name is just a train wreck. Why the hell do video game developers have such uncreative names for their games and systems? Either that or retarded ones. Like the Wii U. At least this isn't retarded.

NSMB2 would be appropriate if it were based on SMB2, but it isn't. Which is kind of a shame, really.

As of posting this, I'm in the process of getting the game digitally from the Nintendo eShop.

This game better be worth $42.39, or I'm gonna be more than slightly pissed.

Well. Its actually a rehash&hack from new super mario brow wii, with little things added.
Anyway, I will get a physical copy of it near the end of the year, or in 2 month. Honestly, cant wait to play this game :)

Well, there's a few subtractions to go with the additions. The ice flower, penguin suit and propeller mushroom powerups (from what I've seen, there was a roulette block in the underwater level, and it didn't have them), and the spin jump/spin attack have been removed.

I got kinda into it a few times, and forgot I was on the handheld instead of the Wii and kept shaking my 3DS to try to get an extended jump, only to have Mario do nothing but soar half-assedly through the air like he had been.

Oh, in 1-Fort the second star coin is in the hidden room with the P-switch, you have to climb the snake blocks to the top before the switch runs out to get it, or else it disappears. It kinda annoyed me because it has a gimmick trap of blue, P-switch coins to act as a distraction, and the vertical screen scroll isn't immediately apparent.

I think they try hard to keep some things just for each variant of the game. Seems while it's a rehash of the same game, it does follow the pattern on SMB1 and SMB2J of same basic game..

I've got to 1-F and got stuck on a call. I'll get back to it as soon as I get off this call.

I was considering that.. but it's far too expensive that way. £39.99 for the eShop here. (That's equal to $62.81 for those who don't want to do a currency conversion.)

Might pick it up in the shop I work in though, I know it's £29.99 there.

Well I wonder what the DLC will be? Honestly, I cant think of anything good at all.
And someone just spoiled me what happens when you get 1 Million coins. I thought I was going to be something better, but IMO, its just not worth it for what you get when you reach that goal.

We're talking about Nintendo here. Their idea of rewards are: playing the game all over again from the start as Luigi or getting 5 stars on the title screen. Will this be the first time Nintendo has ever had DLC on their own games?

At any rate, I'll get the game, I'll plow through it, steal ideas, get 1,000,000 coins and then return it. I've actually read that the levels were designed by an entirely new team in order to make the game use new ideas. I've heard both arguments at this point: the game is a rehash of past Mario level ideas vs the game has some of the best level ideas ever. So it boils down to just playing it myself, as usual 8)

I think this will be the first Nintendo game with DLC (not counting the mario kart 7 bugfix one)

And I will, for the most part, do the same. I want to finish this NSMB hack I am making, and this game seems to have some good levels ideas. Even if its more of the same 2d mario, I cant never get enough, so I don't care much about the rehashed content.
And regarding another team that developed this game, it was because the original team is developing New Super Mario Bros. U, so I hope that one has new content.

I have to admit, the level difficulty feels like a rollercoaster.. I can find a level difficult, and the next one sort of just hands you everything. :|
