You know it's bad when I'd have to actually PRACTICE SMB2/3 because I haven't played in so long. :\ It's like riding a bike though.

I'd be down for this.

I think blind/unpracticed speed runs would be a lot more fun to watch. Just saying...

If you added commentary from the person playing.. it could be more fun to see how much they curse.

Yeah, see this type of informal video can be a lot of fun to watch. I remember I used to watch mrj and a couple of other dudes play some shit and I thought it was pretty funny, hah. <_<

It can be funny as long it's not overacted. All those let's play youtube videos where every other word is swearword (save those for actual major fuckups).

I would like to play both known (SMB3 as a example) and unknown (obscure games or rom hacks) runs.

I DO this. And if I DO join in on these speed runs, you can assure that's what I'mma do: Play the game and commentate at the same time, uploading the failed attempt to Youtube.

I think the first thing we need to do before any competition is find out what game to do it on.

Maybe one of the Mario games is a good start, I see a lot of mentions of SMB3 in the thread so... :P

Yeah, I think SMB3 is the de facto choice. It's one of them most common ones, and I can't think of too many people who play it. Do we want to start thinking of when we'll start?

Can I already claim the trophy for last place? I've never actually played SMB3 more than a couple of levels.

It would be over within 15-20 minutes if warp whistles is involved, most of the time being spent on the annoying autoscroll levels in World 8 (if you have replayed the game countless times, the autoscroll levels feels REALLY REALLY slow). For the record the current TAS record is 10:25.6 minutes with warps and 47:04.7 minutes without warp whistles. Most people who have played SMB3 should be able to do it within two hours if they skip stages and rush through most of the game.

I should upload to YouTube if I do this and bore the hell out of people.

Yeah, I'd take a while.. a long while. Might see a game over too.

Yeah, with Warp Whistles it's allow about that chunk of time on the auto scrollers. It's more interesting to do a full run as it can add more variability to the contest.

Ailure: Hmm.. 47min~ and 10min~ eh? Has anyone tried Allstars? (I mean yeah.. that's just own bias showing.)

Allstars could be a slightly more interesting option. I've had better luck with SNES Emulation over NES emulation. :/

I kinda wish I could record from my actual normal NES cause God knows my keyboard skills are gonna drive me to drink. But nope, I'd have to use shitty webcam-o-vision and FUCK THAT. How're the rest of you who're gonna record this gonna record? Emulation, as well?

Also, when ARE we doin' this.

I'll use emulation, specifically the emulator's built-in recording feature. I just hope that you guys don't think I'm using slowdown or other tool assistance because of that.

The reason I'm banned from SRL is because I used the speedup button. Because of that, I've further established the greater need for people to stream. Sucks because I kind of fucked that one up, because now I /have/ to stream, but can't since my computer sucks a bag of puree'd pig stomachs.

I'm sure my internet would give up if I tried to stream anything.. Might be nice to suggest ways to record while playing.. as in a 1:1 speed recording as to what's going on. 'cause then I might have more use for my YouTube account. :/
