Ailure: Hmm.. 47min~ and 10min~ eh? Has anyone tried Allstars? (I mean yeah.. that's just own bias showing.)
I think people prefer TAS runs with the orginal version, however I can imagine Allstars either being slower (cause the time from when you start the game to when you get into the action counts), or faster (less lag when a lot of things is happening?).

I'd like to join this as well. Should we figure out a time to do it all at the same time, or are we just going to have a leaderboard?

That's what we are discussing in part.

I really think live is the best, and most fun! The when part is the difficult question..

Maybe combine both?

If the speed running is done over a week, then more people can take part (in theory).

Since, the way I understand it, we're doing a full run (no warps, etc) do we get extra points for doing every level, or is it strictly the first to Peach's room in 8-Castle?

NES SMB3 lagged?

Whoa. News to me.

Plenty of NES games did. I seem to recall SMB3 did at times, but nothing major (basically easy to miss lag). I think some ROM hacks of SMB3 would be guilty of introducing lag due to the complexity some of them like to do.

Trelior: I think a 100% speedrun would increase the required time to finish by quite a bit. But if people are crazy enough to be up for that. ;)

I just played through the game on the original NES and, yeah, it did lag on the occasional point. This was the general NES slowdown though, where the game chugs for 3 seconds when there's a whole bunch of shit on the screen trying to kill you. In SMB3, it's relatively rare, but it can happen if you try to rush through a level and some fast moving badies are still after your ass.

I can't help but get the feeling I would do poorly in a straight up speed run competition, since I've conditioned myself to do every single level every time I play SMB3, and my mind doesn't even acknowledge that there are skipable levels.

Well, it's not exactly about winning, is it? Not for me, at least. I'm in it for the fun of it.

And I've conditioned myself to get the two warp whistles in World 1 and warp straight to world 8 with them. I'd be willing to do the game without warps, though. =p

I can't even comprehend playing all the levels. I can't THINK of the last time I've played 1-4 not for shits and giggles.

And yep, not about winning for me either. I know I'm only below average at the game, but fuck, I wanna have fun!

I don't want to seem like I'm all about winning, but I tend to be pretty competitive about things I feel I'm good at.

If you can find any videos of me playing competitive multiplayer, you'll easily notice that about me.

Welp, since my schedule is so inconsitant I doubt I will be able to attend the first round(s) in anything other than in spirit/observation. That said we should try to do a test round this weekend. I'm going to throw out a time of Saturday around 8pm EST.. and we can adjust it as people respond. Sound good? (I suspect 8pm will not be the actual time but it's a start)

If I play, I'll still be in work for another hour. If it's going to work for me, the idea time would be 10PM EST.

We're all doing it live at the same time? I was just gonna record myself doing it whenever the Hell I wanted. Oh well, a skype call would result in more hilarity as each of us says "FUCK I DIED" eleventy-billion times.

I'm fine with ANY time on Saturday.

First 3 worlds in 27:02 (a race I just did a hour ago on Speedrunslive)

I'm not the best player ever, and I had a few bad deaths that cost a few minutes, but this should give a good sample of what to expect from me :)

Tomorrow night for a race here should be fine for me as well ...

I gave up.

I nearly beat world 3 in 25 minutes, but I accidentally used the flute I had gotten when rushing through the fortress. That was bullshit. Coulda started over but that really deflated me. Maybe next speedrun, good luck to the rest of you.
