Good question. The only thing that comes to mind is a Yoshi suit. Add it in a game with a rideable Yoshi, and you could maybe come up with some double-Yoshi game mechanics. The game Chameleon Twist comes to mind.

worst player character mechanic you've encountered in a game?

Toss up between Final Fantasy 8's magic draw system or Final Fantasy X's dungeon puzzles. I know there's likely far worse things in the other games in the series, but I just haven't played them.
