Yup, you got it. Your pick again.
(FYI I'm just gonna update the board/scores in the first post instead of reposting them every post -- it's just easier to keep track of everything when it's in one place and that way I don't copy+paste repeat mistakes ![]() |

Correct! You have control of the board, @"Nicolyn"!
* Okay, so I screwed up — it wasn't actually the correct answer (the category title was supposed to be "Games on AVGN" but I accidentally pasted an old category title, lol). But Nicole's answer fits the criteria if you ignore my fuckup, so I'm just gonna award her the $800 anyway. The answer I had in mind was Super Mario Bros. 3 (remember that this category wasn't necessarily bad games), for the record. To be honest, I've been so disappointed with how poorly I've been running this -- I only took up the mantle because I wanted there to be a forum Jeopardy! again, not because I necessarily thought I'd be good at running it. There was a part of me that was tempted to just let this thread die quietly, but apparently there's still interest, though, so the show will go on, I guess. |

God. I starting reading a bunch about the first World War a few years ago, around the centenary of its outbreak — it's unreal how horrible it was, and for no real reason. An entire young generation's life and livelihood thrown away at the behest of insane nationalist and imperialist entanglements (capitalism, yay). The brutality and the complete lack of regard for human life in that era is completely incomprehensible.
War is an awful thing. The first World War often gets forgotten in favor of the second, and even then the second is often spoken of in terms of its commanders, the ideals that were being fought for, Hitler and MacArthur and whatever big-name figures and not the human tolls it took and its consequences. The first World War didn't even have those ideals underpinning it. You fought and died for your country because you were told to, you were told that there was a glory in doing so, and that the enemy was worth less than nothing because they were The Other and you were handed a gun and told to kill them and that was that. It's horrible and senseless. I just heard this recording from 100 years ago, the moment the armistice was declared earlier. Imagine living in the shadow of those sounds for four years straight, and then imagine the silence afterwards... |

idk world wars in general are pretty bad, and heck, wars in general! that's kind of, the point, of acknowledging a conflict like world war i i think
also world war ii was pretty much a direct consequence of the first world war. both in terms of the ideologies that both led to and were brewed in the trenches of the first world war -- nationalism and imperialism commanded from on high combined with resentment gave us fascism and violent anti-semitism -- but also, the simple economic and political causes of wwii arose from the first as well. given that history is essentially a chain of cause-and-effect, both wars are both very historically important (and even the events of today were in some way shaped by the post-wwii order -- and honestly today's rebirth of fascism can be understood by studying what led up to the second world war, inc. wwi) |

I have some really deep seated nostalgic feelings for XP, so I kind of love it
but I never got to use Vista much so Vista/Longhorn have these weird mysterious vibes to them for me. Plus like, the general weird sea green/black aesthetic from that era feels... underexplored? Especially like, compared to Metro which is Everything now I suppose, the truth is....... the best OS is... WINDOWS 2000!!!!!!!!!! HYEH HYEH Bwehehehewe HYAHYAHAH!!!! |
