Posted by EpeleDepends on the exact shade of meaning you intend with "base" -- Linux's code isn't based off of Unix. Linux's kernel was written as a clone of Unix for the x86 architecture. (BSD, on the other hand, is a port of the Unix kernel for x86.) I wouldn't necessarily say they're like day and night, but they definitely have their shades of difference. But also, I haven't really encountered many differences in my day-to-day use of Unix (i.e. macOS) and Linux... How do you feel about the recent Democratic gains in congress? Do you think it's the beginning of a broader political shift in the U.S.? |
