In Boston, no one really stops for pedestrians and you can just dart across in gaps in traffic-- it's assumed this will happen and everyone acts accordingly.

In California, it seems people actually follow the law, wait at lights, etc! How are you supposed to get anywhere?

There was some sort of magic setup; me and a group of friends (many of whom are people I know IRL) ; Mary became in charge of giving out powers for whatever reason. (But it also depended on individual affinities)

In any case the best part by far was that I got the ability to fly; by running out and jumping over a long open surface (like a body of water) I would glide for a few seconds and then grow wings (which didn't feel like anything), at which point I could fly wherever I want. I'm not sure exactly what the goal of the magic setup was, though.

There was a continuation of the dream later in the night where whatever the reason for the magic setup had caused cultural changes; Mary and I had moved back to my old hometown but it had become very culturally conservative, like everyone had decided to live like it was the 1950's again. Also this meant I couldn't fly around much or people would find out, which would be bad.
