I have mentioned it in IRC, but eh, not sure what to do.
My phone is a HTC Desire 601. I got it two years ago and it's cool, it does what I want. EXCEPT. A while ago it started doing that thing where something keeps the CPU busy and drains the battery ridiculously fast. All information I can access about it points at the system. I tried axing the Facebook app (useless anyway), but nope. So what's this crap? Inefficient hipster coding somewhere? Special code HTC added to enforce planned obsolescence? (amazingly fitting with the fact that they no longer offer updates for this phone, beyond a libstagefright fix) I could root it and start investigating via adb or something, but rooting it will factory-reset it. Or while I'm at it, I could install a CyanogenMod build, but the only one available is still full of issues. I could try working on them, but uh. Or I could do something entirely different? Have any of you dealt with similar shit? I don't take "buy a new phone" as a valid answer. I refuse to give in to planned obsolescence especially if they're using petty tricks to enforce it. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

The Jul method is more limited (16 fixed moods), but also easier to implement code-wise (no retrieving mood avatars from an extra database table...).
It also has the downside of requiring all the mood avatars to be stored under the exact same URL, which isn't compatible with all image hosts out there. An interesting variant would take a "mood avatar sheet" that is basically a 4x4 grid of mood avatars. CSS would then be used to display the right one next to posts. Although sizing would be a problem for avatars smaller than 200x200. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

not if you're careful
the key is mostly figuring out how to disassemble things, when to be careful and when to use some force (for example, you have to be esp. careful with the DSLite top screen ribbon) if you have trouble figuring it out, you can find disassembly videos on Youtube, that's what I did for my phone and some other things regarding your Game Gear, you can probably find a power cord on eBay or something, dunno though I also didn't post about my phone: replacing the power button wasn't that hard, it's attached to a little ribbon thing that also has the notification LED and light sensor although I broke the new one somehow by trying to align it better so the notification LED would be visible, so I had to order another one :/ I didn't touch it again now that it works, the notification LED isn't very useful anyway (on this phone model it turns off after a while to save battery power or something) ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Posted by Nicole not in the slightest! Posted by Schezo no, but reminds me of those YOU HAVE A VIRUS ad banners... the best one I ever came across was one that failed to identify Vista and said "Your an unknown operating system may need an update" -- the message was in French but the 'an unknown operating system' bit in English, making it even better Posted by Dani ★ we already have more than enough at home ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

long story short, Squiddy implemented the "update thread last post date when editing the last post" feature, except for all posts and not just the last one (and it updates all the info, not just the date) just posting it as a reminder, now if you see fucked up threads, you know who to blame ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

Fun... or not.
My parents' plan is basically: 1. finish your studies 2. find a job 3. now your life is on rails and we can get rid of you and anything not fitting that will automatically mean that I want to live off of them forever. They don't realize it, but... I really don't want that. My studies would be finished in one year, normally. If I pass this year. Which is unclear. Failure would be undesirable because I have already failed another year and my parents would be here to rub that in my face and basically be annoying. They're already doing that (rub my failures in my face to justify things) and successes don't seem to matter. Oh well. I can't tell whether I will pass. I'm planning to move the fuck out during the summer. There are several unknowns and potential issues to it though. I want to move far away from their house, so they aren't tempted to visit me every fucking day. This means that I'll have to book a hotel or whatever for a while. Can't stay there forever as that's expensive, even a cheap crapo hotel. I have to use that time to find an apartment, which isn't going to be easy. Then find a part-time job to support myself. Part of me fears finding one but not the other. I'm not counting on support from my parents. My reasons for leaving aren't reasons they would understand, but uh, I really need to move out of this fucking place for my own sanity. My own sanity? Yeah. Mom can be an annoying derpass. Like, I can talk about something random and she brings it back to "you should go work for univ" or such crap. I'm not badgering you about your job, so leave me the fuck alone. It can't be that simple though. Sometimes we reach agreements but they tend to not last at all, she will conveniently 'forget' about them. Her crap sometimes has undertones of "you will fail if you don't do it my way". Long story short, she's being toxic. The worst was a few months ago when I had decided to go job hunting. They started being very annoying and pressuring about it. I later decided to go back to univ, which was partially to calm them down. But that's only a temporary solution. Whenever I will be job-hunting again, I will get the same shit all over again. "you should be spending all your time seeking for a job otherwise that means you're doing nothing you lazy fuck". Well, leaving should improve our relations, maybe she will finally consider me an adult and not a leecher she needs to pressure to get rid of. Well, that's if she doesn't rage at me. The tricky part will be finding an apartment, I guess. In France most landlords want you to be perfect, ie. either have a big paycheck or have other persons with big paychecks to back you up, or both. There are still possibilities without that, but it's not going to be easy. I just hope I don't end up spending all my savings into hotel crap. I will be leaving somewhere mid-Summer. I will claim that I'm going on vacation with friends (which I have never done, but I hope to do it soon, heh) which will just be a pretext for leaving and for not spending vacation with them. Wish me luck. Any advice is welcome. ____________________ Kuribo64 - melonDS want some revolution in your coffee? |

There was another interesting dream that I remembered before this one, but now I forgot about it.
So, the last one. We're in the car, heading back home. Road is unusual though. Dad talks about issues he has at work with certain people. On the way, a house is on fire. Firemen are trying to put it out. Dad gets worried about it because the people who own that house are related to his issues at work, and they could think that the fire was his fault. We get to home. Sure enough, weird people are in front of the garage doors, waiting for us. We lock ourselves in the big garage, I have some trouble closing the door but it's closed in time, the weird guys aren't fast anyway. I worry about the wall separating the big garage from the small one (that wall has a notch where it's like 2m high, which is also present in the dream), the small garage was left open and the weird guys are in it too (yet, the other side of the wall is completely dark). The weird guys don't try anything to get us... they're just there. Weird that noone considers calling the cops, either. At some point the big garage has another wall and an old hardwood floor connected to it (which don't exist), Dad goes there and it's completely dark. I worry about the floor but it seems strong enough (some of those floors in this house were rotten, so eh).
