Why do desk designers assume that 50cm is fine for a keyboard shelf to fit "all keyboards"?

Is mine just too much of a behemoth?
For awhile I was looking for a keyboard shelf that would be large enough to fit my Tandy 1000HX underneath, so I didn't have to prop up a monitor on the system itself-- that's quite impossible to find, though....

Checking the dimensions, it'd be tricky, but not impossible. (Assuming what I found is correct)

I actually ran across a number of desks which would fit what you're looking for, but I did go through 100 pages of items on Amazon.
Ah, I didn't realize you were referring to desks, I thought you meant those shelves you put your monitor on and can keep your keyboard underneath, on top of an existing desk...

Nope; smallest TV I had was I think around 6"? And it wasn't portable, you had to plug it in...

Used it in my bedroom all the way up until the DTV transition made it useless >_> (as it had no external inputs, only the antenna)
