♥13049 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by DarkWitchClaire The human mind likes to be correct; this is generally a good drive, since it leads to people want to figure out the truth about things... The problem is, that it's really easy to get sidetracked when the thing you're arguing about is a definition, which are inherently arbitrary and only exist among consensus anyway. Anytime you see someone arguing over what a word "really means", realize that it's the same thing as arguing when "the decade starts". Also, our really terrible decision to count centuries by ordinal numbers means that anyone who wants to use common words like "the 21st century" has to get used to a system where the first two digits of the year don't match the century number, because oops we have strictly-defined centuries and ill-defined decades, inconsistency also drives the human mind mad :p Posted by Danika I'm looking forward to the summer! Need warmth.... |

♥13060 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by Danika I'm not sure-- the recent beta release shows that Sonic and Knuckles Collection was probably not using the music to avoid Michael Jackson, but just because the developers were working off an old version. And it also shows that Sega has plenty of backup music they could use instead-- given the level of hacks done on the Wii Virtual Console to remove things like the Red Cross logo, it seems like they could have easily made a hack to play the MJ-free music instead. (They wouldn't even have needed to have a copy of the beta lying around) Admittedly, maybe they just think that's too much work. (But S3&K is widely-- though not by me-- considered to be the best 2D Sonic, so if any game would be worth it...) If anything is to blame, I don't think it's Michael Jackson himself-- he repudiated his involvement and denied it, rumors say he wasn't happy with the Genesis sound chip. I'd say it'd probably be his death that caused the problem, since now any rights that he might have held belong to his estate, which I bet cares less than MJ does about his artistic reputation, and more about whatever remnant rights they might hold to the game. Of course, I'm not a lawyer, I'm definitely not Sega's lawyer, I don't have any special knowledge here :p just making guesses based off of rumors I've read. |
