♥13321 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by AtomicAstro I think that's usually true. Limited lives/continues are good game design in the arcades; they reward skilled players with more play for their quarters. (Contrast with something like the PlayChoice-10 where you only pay for time) Even for relatively simple games like Pac-Man or Donkey Kong, I think lives are good. The challenge is more "how long can you last" ("how high can you get") versus completing a linear succession of stages from start to finish. The games where lives work best generally don't have a finish. However, most modern games aren't like that, so I think the presence of limited lives/continues is an anachronism at best. Posted by Danika Could see them doing that with a VHS tape for sure, but laserdiscs are so much more effort to make... Posted by DarkWitchClaire The "Metroidvania" Castlevania games usually have really good and satisfying double jumps. |

♥13322 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by Danika I didn't realize they added a clock format, that sounds terrible In general I think what killed that show was that it was super popular and a cultural phenomenon; game shows last longer when they're a slow burn and become an institution... And that's why The Price is Right keeps going ![]() |

♥13323 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by DarkWitchClaire Raichu. I think it took Alolan Raichu to get me to like it, but now I like regular Raichu as well. Posted by Danika Oh I don't need to feel like that, I know the RNG is conspiring against me-- the Pseudogoddess of Pseudorandom Number Generation is a long-time rival of mine. |

♥13326 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by Danika Indeed! I want one now; it's funny, speeds vary much more now than they did back then thanks to various turbo modes and power-saving clock tweaks, we need to bring those back Posted by DarkWitchClaire I have a website and it has no web 1.0 era buttons on it =o perhaps that classic "This site is Hentai-free", to make sure those perverts know where they stand |

♥13331 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by AtomicAstro He's purring, so I assume he's doing well Posted by DarkWitchClaire The cat (Felis catus) is a domestic species of small carnivorous mammal.[1][2] It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and is often referred to as the domestic cat to distinguish it from the wild members of the family.[4] A cat can either be a house cat, a farm cat or a feral cat; the latter ranges freely and avoids human contact.[5] Domestic cats are valued by humans for companionship and their ability to hunt rodents. About 60 cat breeds are recognized by various cat registries.[6] |

♥13333 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by Danika A cute... substance? Odd but sure why not cats are cute and have soft fur Posted by DarkWitchClaire I think I'm expected to say Netscape, but Firefox is close enough in my book-- I'll go out into bizarre territory and say AOLPress. I don't know how a simultaneous web browser and web editor could work in the modern CSS/JS world, but it'd be neat to see them try. |

♥13335 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by DarkWitchClaire I imagine we might find cat music annoyingly high-pitched, since the cat audible range is shifted to higher frequencies relative to ours. Posted by Danika Of course ![]() |

♥13336 ✿4847 ★35 I got some new keycaps for my gamer keyboard, they use the "DSA" profile and have a really nice sound (they're also really loud lol, I wouldn't use these in an office)... plus they're in cute colors.
Have anyone else looked into the aftermarket keycap market? The whole mechanical keyboard market has a huge array of options, and yet foolish me is here wondering how people can even have more than one keyboard... (unless you're Chyrosran22 and are reviewing a different board each week, I suppose that makes sense) |

♥13339 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by DarkWitchClaire I'll go with the Toshiba HX-10D Pasopia IQ in red. Oh sure, it's just an MSX1, albeit with 64K of RAM, but look at it; that red plastic, sharp corners, those spherical keycaps, that 70's font, that huge red STOP button... gods, it's beautiful. But it's too expensive when I do see one around, so I don't have one... maybe once shipping between the US and Japan exists one I'll try to find a deal on a Japanese auction site. Right now the only MSX computer I have is an FS-A1F; a common, workmanlike MSX2 that can run most software, but it's just not nearly as interesting as some of the more fun MSX1 computers. (The FS-A1 line was the only one to make it to turboR, even sadder) Posted by Danika Mew. |

♥13340 ✿4847 ★35 Posted by DarkWitchClaire Probably the Nicole Simulator; I tend to go for ASM if I want to do anything fancy. (Well, on 6502 machines anyway. On Z80 machines I reach for the door I kid, Zilog, I kid!) Posted by Danika he is asleep under the bed right now i can say whatever i want and he won't notice nyahahahaha Posted by AtomicAstro I was reading a description of fighting games as "both you and your opponent are trying to get the other to have no enjoyment out of the game, and this creates enjoyment for both of you". Being a victim of an infinite combo certainly sounds like no fun, so I guess it must be good? That being said, I'm not nearly good enough at fighting games to pull off more than the most basic combos, and then usually only by accident. |
