♥13382 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by ゼンガー・ゾンボルト Who knows; it's a website that IIRC offers some downloadable software, and anti-malware stuff has gotten really paranoid about software downloadable from websites. Talk to byuu about that sometimes, he had a huge mess as Google kept blacklisting his website because it didn't trust his emulators |

♥13388 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by AtomicAstro Because Elon Musk went off the deep end and can no longer focus on 9,634,646,218 things at once Posted by Danika Went to a barcade nearby... end of last year? Maybe early this year? Been there a bunch of times, they have a lot of pinball machines and I really wanted to scratch the pinball itch Now that "the outside world" is closed I only have my virtual pinball machine for that Posted by DarkWitchClaire Never. I went to a place with go karts once ages upon ages ago, but I spent the whole time in the arcade area. (I think they had some of those sit-down 3D Sega games) |

♥13389 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by Danika you know I think I've only ever used one computer with a sound card Like, the computer I had in the 90's had a soundblaster clone that was fine but finicky to get working in some games, but I don't want to call it the worst... But after that into the 2000's we ended up with a succession of cheap desktops (including some corporate desktops from my mother's job) that had sound integrated on the motherboard, and in 2008 I switched to laptops for my main PC. And plenty of my old computers have sound chips, but since I'm not into retro PCs they don't have sound cards. |

♥13392 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by DarkWitchClaire Sonic the Hedgehog And my favorite of that series is Sonic the Hedgehog 2. (The Genesis version, sorry 8-bit Sonic 2 but you are in the "subjectively I have fun with, but objectively not very good" category) Posted by Danika "Cosmic Clone" Mario in Super Mario 3D Land. Literally made me give up on the game. |

♥13393 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by Danika Anything slow. I seem to recall some of the cutter abilities in Kirby 64 being just so slow as to be boring to wait to get it back if you threw them across the screen. Posted by DarkWitchClaire The BURGER from Phantasy Star. I mean, it's literally a burger! You get it at a But it's a useful healing item |

♥13395 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by DarkWitchClaire My assumption is that they used ファースト (katakana faasuto), which happens to be the katakanization of both "first" and "fast". I guess I could check, I have the Japanese version of Phantasy Star... in fact I will. NOPE I was wrong, in Camineet the shopkeeper says koko ha doraggu sutoa desu, which is to say, "This is a drug store". Which makes sense, since the BURGER and COLA are, you know, not a burger or cola in Japanese. I still think the dual meaning of ファースト is to blame, though. |

♥13396 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by Danika I still occasionally recite the Zero Wing opening to myself and laugh. That was a formative internet-meme for me and I don't think I'll ever tire of it Posted by DarkWitchClaire Admittedly, Phantasy Star: The End of the Millennium It's always PSIV! Always! It's the best in every way, okay! Objectively! Best graphics, best translation, most developed characters, fine! I agree! But its story sucks as a conclusion to the whole of Phantasy Star and the whole great light-profound darkness-rykros thing is profoundly boring compared to the plots of Phantasy Star II and the Phantasy Star manual and anyway-- She's going to be here awhile, might as well let her be |

♥13397 ✿4735 ★68 Posted by AtomicAstro The Switch remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap was really cool in that it let you switch between modern and the original Sega Master System graphics and music in real time, at any point while playing. That's something that was really cool, and makes me wonder if something like that could be incorporated as a gameplay element. Posted by Danika You! or billie, one of the two Posted by DarkWitchClaire The NES version of Pac-Land, which uses the A and B buttons to move left and right and the D-pad to jump. This is trying to echo the arcade version, which used left-right buttons rather than a joystick, but in practice it's just weird, and other ports of the game just used normal directional controls. |
