Oh, sorry, forgot what year it was. I'll go with Hercules; the Hercules graphics mode was the first PC standard that wasn't made by IBM, and the only one to have aggressively non-square pixels. (Okay I guess MDA pixels weren't square but the whole point of Hercules was that MDA didn't let you address pixels, so who cares)

Also apparently the Hercules name is now associated with PC DJ controllers? Brand name journeys are strange

Yep! Though apparently once it had a second life as the Macintosh XL some people modded it to change the pixel width, which sounds like sacrilege to me.

I've heard this hurt the Lisa in particular because it meant that it wasn't as suitable for desktop publishing (the industry whose early adoption that saved the Mac), but it definitely gave it a distinctive look, along with the angled fonts.

Awesome Possum... kicks Dr. Machino's Butt!

Oh don't get me wrong, it is objectively a terrible, terrible game. But it's like, everything bad about mascot platformers put into a single box. A mascot who looks nothing like a possum and never stops talking, all lines which a middle-aged marketing executive thinks 90's kids think is "cool". An ellipsis in the title, for some reason. A terribly shoehorned in environmentalist message that probably inspired more kids to become oil company executives than to save the planet. Clunky gameplay. Giant levels where everything looks the same. The problem of almost all Sonic the Hedgehog clones that the physics encourage to to run fast and then you just hit an enemy you didn't see.

If "so bad it's good" applies to video games, it applies to this one. It is an entire era, an entire genre, in one plastic box.

that's nothing compared to my 3GHz 8088
