I won't be properly back-back until this board is more than a bunch of ask threads and status updates. Kiyoshi probably won't ever return and I'd rather you don't ask why that is.

A'ight. So. Starbound. It's like Terraria, but with better code and in space.

It's still in beta, but fifteen bucks gets you early access, with free updates forever up to and beyond the 1.0 release. It's pretty much the first non-handheld game I've bought in years and I haven't regretted it since.



One thing I particularly like is how modable it is, especially compared to its predecessor.

Man that actually does look pretty cool. Wish I had the money for this, I'd definitely try it out. I love the idea of exploring multiple planets, Especially building anything on them, basically like what would happen if we could live life on Mars, or any other planet, right?

I've found entities to work much nicer than raw characters, but it doesn't look as well in the editor.
Then again, I'd only ever see boxes anyway.

Name: Aneron, Ani/Annie for short
Race: Felin
Sex: a mystery to everybody
Height: fair
Weight: doesn't look very heavy
Colors: teal bodily fur, dark green hair, yellow eyes
Origin: Starbound

Like most felins, it's difficult to tell if Aneron is male or female without getting up close. This is compounded by a many-layered loose robe concealing its physical characteristics. As a travelling Hunter-Scholar, it has a shuttle in orbit. Hidden inside its robes somehow are a notched broadsword of felin make, a dagger, a claw gauntlet, and a Wildcat service rifle, along with a battered matter manipulator (lovingly called the beam-axe for short).

Aneron has no magic or other superpowers, only the grace and flexibility you'd expect from a cat creature, and the knowledge and skill of a Hunter-Scholar. As a videogame character it does have a tendency to use odd phrasing. It can fluently read and write Standard Galactic Alphabet.

Up in the shuttle is a slightly dented automobile that closely resembles but honestly is not a '71 corvette, painted a shiny black.

Aneron is bisexual, as is the norm with its people because you never know what you're flirting with, and takes no offense when the wrong pronoun is used. In fact, this amuses it greatly.

A keening whine rings through the room as a figure appears in a most Mega Man-like fashion. The bright red pillar of light quickly resolves into a humanoid shape, revealing... some kind of cat wizard holding a crumpled note in one hand and the grip of a sword hidden in its robes in the other. The visitor quickly looks around, confused, then glances at the note and nods.

"Vwee..."

Said newcomer warily returns the eyebrow-based gesture, then suddenly thrusts the note at Caionna. "You speak English," it states as a matter of fact, its voice just high enough to be useless in answering the question of what gender it is. "Aneron."

Aneron points at the first line of the note. "It is. It says 'hook the enclosed device to the FTL drive of your ship.' So I did. And now I'm here."

Judging the situation, the cat creature releases its hold on the weapon in its other hand, letting it settle in its robes.

"So... what is this place, sweetie?"

"Please, call me Ani, hon."

Turning back to Caionna, it notices the bar. "This is a drinking establishment of some sort?" it asks. "I do hope so -- I'm a bit parched, sweetie."

Ani jumps at the sudden cleaning activity but quickly collects its wit. "Right, right. Ah... some wine, perhaps? That should loosen things up."

Ani sniffs the wine, smiles in appreciation and daintily sips. "I'm not sure what his name is but he was tall, did strange things, and had something about him that made me think he was much older than he seemed. And unnaturally tired. I've only met him once. Received that strange device in the mail, actually."

Pausing to swirl the wine around a bit, Ani smiles at Caionna. "But enough about him. Tell me a little about yourself, sweetie?"
