I would encourage any college student to get involved if it is indeed for the right reasons. However, when you meet the kind of person who only gets close to that element to drink heavily and act like a drunken, classless bimbo who needs people to clean up after herself when they should be acting like a grown adult, it tends to skew your perspective on things. I have never, ever liked that character trait in a person. It's very difficult for people to respect you if you have no respect for yourself. If you can't hold your alcohol or it causes you to act in a disruptive or harmful manner to yourself or others, then you simply should not drink. Period. End rant.
