Posted by Swingball Well, that's something different. The last time I got parents together, it was for an engagement party, so yeah. Specificity counts. Posted by Swingball Depends on the reputation of this Strickland fellow. Posted by Danika Blue Rhino's done well by me so far. |

Posted by Danika YES. Posted by Swingball I'll take your word for it. As long it's workable propane and I don't explode, then it's all good. Posted by Swingball Lots of things. Airport security increases, Islamaphobia, and a general sense in America of lost innocence, just to name a few. Honest question: Are you old enough to remember 9/11/01? |

Are you old enough to remember 9/11/01?
I was in sixth grade, third period Reading class when the first tower got hit. To say I remember is a touch of an understatement. Not my thread, but the question was posed. |

Posted by Trelior I figured you would remember. The question was more towards Swingball since he seems significantly younger than us. But as long as we're telling stories, here's mine: I was in (I believe) 8th or 9th grade at the time. I was in early morning homeroom when the first tower got hit. A member of the custodial staff came in and turned on the TV, saying that the World Trade Center blew up. Since this was just before every student had a cell phone, students were gradually allowed to go to the school office to call their parents while the rest of us kept watching the news. I ended up seeing the second plane hit and the first tower fell before it was my turn to check in with my mom and let her know I was okay. By the time I got back to class, the second tower was down. Meanwhile, it seemed like the rest of the school was moving at a snail's pace, and I recall thinking that we would remember this forever. The school gave us lunch, kept the teachers around to talk with us for a while, and then sent us home early. It was an insane 24 hours, but I was able to sleep soundly that night when I found out that my grandfather (who worked in the WTC at the time) didn't go in that day due to a dentist's appointment. 16 years later, it just recently occurred to me that there are plenty of teenagers and young adults now who probably don't know / remember what that day was like. Hence, my question to Swingball. |

Yeah, I was a senior in high school when 9/11 happened, for me it was during gym class and they had to bring us in from outside :/
Are hurricanes worse than terrorism though? Jose looks like it could be headed for New Jersey and New York but will likely be down to tropical storm by then "Miracles happen, when you believe..."

Posted by Swingball And that's bad enough. We already had the Columbine school shootings freaking us out when I was your age (as old as that may make me sound), and then 9/11 happened. For your sake and for future generations, I hope you don't experience another man made disaster like 9/11 in your time. Posted by ゼンガー・ゾンボルト Nah, more like a pirate's long weekend for me. Posted by Danika At least with the hurricane there's no outright malice. If we survived Sandy, we'll survive Jose no problem. |
