So, Otter is a QtWebKit (with experimental QtWebEngine builds for Win64) based browser. Nothing special about that, right? Well, it aims to rebuild the classic Opera 12 elements and interface using a more modern rendering engine, as well as revive the QtWebKit project in the first place.
Currently in release candidate status, with very active development, you can go download the source at GitHub and the binaries at SourceForge.
It mostly works for lightweight sites, but don't expect heavy stuff to work. There's also a Windows XP x86 build for those that are interested in keeping their old systems alive. IIRC, it uses OpenSSL for its security certificate mechanism, which is a good thing, and you can even configure the ciphers used ![]() ____________________ Good riddance! |

So instead of an Opera-presenting browser that just uses Chrome's renderer, here's an Opera-presenting browser that runs on what's basically the daddy instead.
As much as I love Opera 12 (I'm posting this from O12 in fact), this doesn't exactly fill me with hope. |

Opera 12 is probably one of the best browsers of all-time, though.
My main concern over the new Opera is that it's owned by a Chinese company and could be sending stuff back to the CN government etc. ____________________ Good riddance! |

Yep, Opera 12 is my go-to for Windows 98 and 2000 in case I need a browser on one of those Firefox doesn't run well on machines older than about early i-series anymore, but Opera 12 runs on as little as a late Pentium III reasonably ![]() "Miracles happen, when you believe..."

Posted by Danika Hm, O12 would run well on atom n270 1.6ghz given it has the relative power of a 2001 p3 ____________________ Good riddance! |
