I agree with you. Which is why I'm always in favor of shaping up what we've got, and applying any improvements to the current board instead of a new one.

I've said it before, it was board resets and staff infighting that drove me away in the I1/I2 days. All this place needs is a little love.

It is quite impressive that both Kafuka and even moreso Jul have lasted as long as they have with reasonable activity... considering how long the early AB incarnations lasted. (Hell, all the incarnations combined of Acmlm's Board lasted what, seven years?)

It feels like way longer than that.

Honestly, Kafuka being as active as it is seems like a lot bigger of a deal. Jul, by virtue of being a more closed off community, had time to grow slowly and organically. A place like this that just seemed to spring up out of nowhere and cultivate a community for itself seems like more of a feat.

I remember actually lurking on the first incarnation when it went bang back in the day, March 11, 2004... was wondering what happened (did a hacker attack the board?)... later on I do remember Xkeeper knocking down the board and starting over in late 2005 :D

I don't think anyone truly knows for sure. And if anyone does, they aren't telling.

Personally, from an outside perspective, I'm still inclined to believe some form of staff division and pettiness caused the first flop. I do want to find out the truth one day, though.

I remember someone thought Manda or another banned user caused the crash in the first board too ;) I seriously doubt anything of the sort

The other big issue with the older software is it currently doesn't work on higher versions of PHP. The older the php the more likely a know exploit exists for the interpreter. So you can combine board holes with php hole and get a whole new level of holy shit. :D

Last view: 53 days 		Little late, but I don't really see AB3 ever becoming a successful thing. It's now 2018, very few are interested in small internet communities like Acmlm, Kafuka, Jul, etc. Most people just flock to social media like Facebook and Twitter, and due to the rise of social media, activity on Acmlmboards has been declining rapidly (though Kafuka seems to be pretty active). I mean, look at AB2; It's a ghost town filled with banned users from other boards (SmithJrBlauqaLuigi and MarioBros980), as well as the like, two active mods and a small handful of other people.

Maintaining Kafuka and building it up would be the best course of action, AB3 would just be kind of useless in the end. The age of Acmlm is mostly over, sad to say, and most people are more interested in being absorbed in a much larger group. All the more classic small community for us!

Yep, that seems to be the consensus these days. Thankfully between here, Jul, and Kuriboh64, the Acmlm network still seems to be mostly intact.

Kafuka is forked from Acmlmboard 2.0, which is what Board2 runs from.

Jul is forked from Acmlmboard 1.92.

So neither is really an AB3 code-wise.

If you wanted to argue based on board incarations, Kafuka and Jul are essentially the AB5 generation.
