Thinking about the growth of in-browser cryptominers, at the same time we have many many sites just not running at all unless you have JS enabled (thanks to React or others)...

I was a diehard NoScript user for awhile, but I've given up on it for that reason... was just too difficult to allow sites at random every time I went to an unfamiliar site.

I still haven't stopped using it, since I don't go to that many websites and a very minority are a horrible JavaScript ladden mess such as React *web pages* (as for those I don't usually go, that's another story). Part of that is, of course, that the 2010 laptop doesn't really like those kinds of websites very much and I'd rather not have Firefox freeze the entire computer for upwards of a minute.


I started using an AdBlock after I got the pleasure of getting redirected to a Flash Player scam by Photobucket back in 2013/early 2014. The chronology goes like this:
- Adblock Plus
- Adblock Plus + NoScript
- Adblock Edge + NoScript + MBAE
- uBlock Origin + NoScript + MBAE

so yeah :V
MBAE, aka MalwareBytes Anti Exploit is a good failsafe to have

I don't. I browse the same few sites though.

Some browser extensions have anti-mining built-in.

Generally, I don't mind ads. But some are just downright intrusive, any more intrusive and they may as well just strip you naked and take a 360° photo to be able to make a detailed 3D model of your body.

Well, maybe not that far yet.

JS is good for scripts, not good for writing an entire website in where HTML/CSS will work just fine for what you’re doing

I used to use AdBlock Plus, but switched to uBlock Origin since it's lighter on memory usage and runs better on here :D (also uBlock seems to not be targeted by websites for "HEY TURN OFF ADBLOCK" as much)

It is actually possible to disable javascript in Safari on iOS.
What you have to do is:
1. Go into the settings app and find the page for Safari.
2. Scroll all the way down on the Safari page and click on "Advanced".
3. There should be a Javascript toggle there.
4. Profit!

Same here, I will trust some JavaScript because many sites require it however the adblockers are pretty much good enough on their own to block malicious content
