most experienced people on Acmlmboards have been around those boards for quite long. you rarely see newcomers (to acmlmboards in general) with much knowledge.. or newcomers not from other boards for that matter.


Random braindump because it's sort of relevant to this and I've been meaning to bring this up for awhile:

I came here from SMWCentral (after I got banned LOL) which is basically a knockoff Acmlmboard. Post ban I found out about Acmlm through a former staff friend of mine who used to be a noob on Acmlm from back in the l2 days (that user being SMWFreak if anyone even remembers who that is), and became obsessed with Acmlm history despite it being way before my time (I wasn't even 7 years old when the first board died).

Take away from that what you will lol, just felt like sharing.

End braindump.

More relevant to the topic at hand, Twitter and Facebook are nice but the way they're designed (i.e. to make people addicted) can be a turnoff at best and damaging at worst. I'll admit I spend a little too much time on Twitter myself, but in the end there's nothing like a small community like this. Unlike most social media where you're basically just shouting into the void, on boards like this you can have actual discussion with people and it's FAR more engaging. So in that sense I think there's definitely an appeal, but the more "archaic" layout of the boards can definitely be a turnoff as well. For me it isn't (And in fact I like it), but I can definitely see it being an issue for others.

And yeah... I've seen many people complain about ABXD before who are accustomed to 'professional' forum software like IPS. Seems professional = bloated (except in the case of SMF).

That'll never happen. People like the bloat. That's why when I started I was all about new features. Still I hope people who want to use it can still have the chance to. That's my goal of getting 2.x open sourced. I have a feeling that other than people who snub their nose a bloat or web 3.0 we're likely not to see that big of a growth.

The history is actually quite interesting and is worth learning. It's got drama, action... maybe adventure if you like the car chase that is SQL injection.

Speaking of tests. Would you like to sign up to star in the Acmlmboard movie? The tryouts are at the A*uat*e Labs. There will an exam performed to make sure you can act 4th dimensionally.
