Surprised I couldn't find one of these threads here... well, here we go, a useful freeware thread (please no warez, I don't want to get in trouble) 
Web Browsers Google Chrome – world's fastest web browser, for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux Opera – another popular alternative to IE or Firefox Mozilla Firefox – the original alternative to IE, and the spiritual successor to Netscape Internet Explorer – comes with Windows, and is actually partly decent now compared to years ago Qupzilla - basically a WebKit version of Classic Firefox ;D SRware Iron - Like Chrome, but don't like the spying tactics? Try SRware Iron instead 
Multimedia VLC Media Player – one of the most popular ones, and my recommendation for videos Winamp – it really whips the llama's ass still a classic today, highly recommended
Audacity – great for recording from radio/cassette to PC, recording voices, or converting audio between different formats ModPlug – fan of module music and want to make your own? ModPlug is your friend foobar2000 – another alternative to Winamp, supports many plugins K-Lite Codec Pack – an essential codec pack for those who work with audio and video frequently, comes with Media Player Classic Graphics Paint.net – excellent alternative to MS Paint, highly recommended for Windows users GIMP – steep learning curve, but a great alternative to Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro mtPaint – pretty good program, I use it often for pixel art, etc. Blender – the best free 3D modeling software, hands down Inkscape – open source alternative to Illustrator, highly recommended XNView – opens many types of images, include some very rare formats Irfanview - best freeware image viewer, also has some editing features in it Network Stuff Pidgin – best multiprotocol chat client, supports AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, etc. X-Chat 2 (aka YChat) – IRC client for Windows FileZilla – free FTP client, great for uploading websites or downloading from FTP servers XAMPP – run a web server off your home computer Vuze – best torrent client HexChat - another build of XChat for Windows Virtualization/Emulation Oracle VirtualBox – run a virtual machine of Windows, Linux, or other x86 operating systems WinUAE – Got Amiga? Trillian - Another multi-protocol chat client. COMODO Internet Security - A fairly strong Antivirus and Firewall which doesn't bog down your system. OpenOffice - An alternative to Microsoft Office which is free and supports the same filetypes and more. Process Explorer - An alternative to Task Manager. Offers more detail than Task Manager too. The world could always use more heroes! |

I don't know that much, but Ill list the ones I know:
SRWare Iron - Exactly the same thing as google chrome, except this doesnt have the spyware behaviors from Chrome. DeSmuME JIT SVN r4287 - A DS emulator. This version of desmume is recompiled using JIT method. Its way faster than the normal way, and when tweaked with the performance settings to low, you can run most 2D games at 100% on some low performance computer. (this revision is like 3 month old, so newer ones may be out there) Microsoft Security Essentials - A really good free antivirus for windows. Its not annoying and has great features and does its job well. |

ImDisk and Zero/Random Drivers for Windows NT - I use the former for a 1GB RAM disk on my main Windows 7 box and have installed the latter as well
Wizmo - excellent utility for Win2K/XP/Vista/7, features many command-line features and even screensavers Nircmd - another utility similar to Wizmo, always keep this around for stuff like emptying the recycle bin on exit, etc. DS Software - home of EDXOR, Freezip, etc. for Windows 9x/Me/NT/XP (great for older systems or floppy disks) PowerMenu - great old utility for Win9x/Me/2K/XP/Vista (does not work properly on 7  )"Miracles happen, when you believe..."

CCleaner - a great junk cleaning program.
Ninite - a website where you can choose a bundle of programs for install. Useful if you got a new computer. Notepad++ - Notepad but more advanced with stuff like multifile support, syntax highlighting and so much more. |

Posted by IceFairyAmyActually, there are other browsers which are still faster. Even if they lack in support for some html5 features, but they're much faster. LibreOffice is based off OpenOffice. The world could always use more heroes! |

A big lack of Pale Moon in this thread.
Forked from Firefox at an earlier build. It's a lot more lightweight, and runs a lot better. It's a little lacking in a few features though, but most websites work. The world could always use more heroes! |

Yeah. Pale moon in its latest version is pretty good. With a user-agent spoof you can even use Slack with almost all functionality.
The only major feature I notice as missing is the ability to paste images to upload them. The world could always use more heroes! |

Another decent Firefox fork is Waterfox, which works better for me than updated Firefox at times.
A browser that I use and check in on from time to time is qutebrowser. It's great for keyboard-centric users, since it uses vim-like commands to do most anything. It's not perfectly compatible with every website, but it proves more efficient than reaching for the mouse or touchpad when typing a lot in a browser. Otherwise, there's other browser extensions that do the same kind of thing. |

Here's some stuff I use (or at least know about).
Cmder • A terminal emulator for Windows that's not cmd.exe, based on ConEmu and clink. Has support for cmd.exe and PowerShell as well as bash on Unix PTY, so you can use git, ssh, grep, scp, ls, etc. without Cygwin. ColorVeil • A screen color overlay for Windows — essentially, a more powerful f.lux. You can overlay any translucent color over the screen with any level of opacity, which means you can dim it without the orangeish incandescent hue that f.lux and Windows 10 Night Light use. FileZilla • It's already been pointed out in the thread, but there's something worth mentioning: FileZilla now comes with bundled ad offers by default. If you don't want these, be sure to click "Show additional download options" on the Downloads page. The link also links directly to the bundleless, plain FileZilla installers, so you can use that too. Anyway, it's still probably one of the best FTP clients and definitely worth checking out. JDownloader • A program that lets you download embedded files on a bunch of webpages, including YouTube videos. It looks skeevy as hell, but it seems okay to me??? KeePass • A password manager for Windows. Lets you store all of the 500 passwords that you're probably using on 500 different websites in one database, which you can encrypt with a combination password+keyfile. MusicBee • If you like music programs with advanced Media Library and automatic playlist features similar to iTunes, this is a good one. I'm way more fond of the more minimalist foobar2000 and Winamp so this isn't my thing, but I know people that really swear by it. Pixeur • Lets you select any colored pixel on your screen, see the RGB or hex values for them, and store them in a list if you need. I can't find the official site anymore, so I'm just linking to my own mirror. If you'd like to download it from a different source, there's also CNET... PuTTY • A good, lightweight remote terminal and SSH program. Very minimalist, but very fast and gets the job done. WinSCP • A good alternative to FileZilla. A little more complex, but a little more feature-rich. Windows only, though. |

Oh, god yeah. qBitTorrent is the best torrent client I've ever used and it kicks the crap out of uTorrent, which has fallen way behind in recent years 
There's also Deluge which I used for a little bit, but I don't like it quite as much as qBitTorrent. Still better than uTorrent, probably. |
